Well, I like Florida; however, I certainly wouldn't recommend that anyone move here. lol
The northern part of the state is very provincial and the southern part of the state is very diverse. It's a crazy mix for sure. And, we've got the owner and operator of stormfront.org living nearby in West Palm Beach, not to mention a large contingent of white supremacists around the rest of the state!
My opinion of Texas has also been shaped by many, many outrageous posts I've read all over the Internet by people who claim to be from Texas. Maybe they're not really from Texas at all. My opinion was not based on just a few business trips to Texas, although I was out in West Texas and that was not so great. Went to Palo Durro (sp?) Canyon, but other than that, it was hot, dry, and desolate. I didn't like Houston either. I had to fly into Houston a couple times and traveled around that area! Ugh. Sorry.
Oh, yes. "Florida people" are not all that friendly either. And Miami is the gateway to South America. Some people here say, "Miami is almost in the United States"........lol. However I still like it. And I'm starting to understand a little Spanish even though I don't speak the language at all.
Well, based on where you were in TX I see why you said what you did. I happen to live in Fl too. Sarasota/Siesta Key area. You are brave for living in Miami! YIKES!
I'll stay over here and keep speaking English until we are forced to learn Chinese!
Non-Texans, what is your view of our state, especially after Perry's secession rant?
Have other recent TX-related controversies, such as the boy being shot and the polygamist sect, also influenced your perception in any way? How about President Bush?
No - these are single events and individual people. I don't think it is representative of the state as a whole. I am going there for a roadtrip visiting Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Corpus Christi along the way. It should be fun, methinks.
I lived in North Dallas for 2 years back in the 90's. While I thought Dallas was beautiful and most of the people were friendly, I found it odd that nobody that lived there was actually a native of Dallas. Additionally, as a native Chicagoan I felt weird being able to barbeque while wearing shorts and a t-shirt on Christmas day. Ironically, while the culture was very different and I encountered more than a few people who were still pissed about losing the civil war, it was the heat that drove me back to the Chicagoland area.
"Retards," as you have used the term is very derogatory and very offensive.
