OK so this is something that i have heard more than a few times. I was told by a few people that there are talks of making April Confederacy month or some nonsense like that! I'm guessing that the government is getting complaints from some big "redneck" groups about giving the "south" it's own month of celebration for the wonderful things that it did in history!
This as I'm sure some of you think is RIDICULOUS, it's bad enough that the south still thinks that it won the civil war, but doing this is only going to make things worse!
If anyone else has heard anything about this let me know.
I think this might be the biggest Faux pas since Hilary running for president!
I havent heard such rumors, and thankfully so. Last thing this country needs is to have a month set aside to celebrate the fools who wanted to break this country apart.

While a month would certainly seem excessive I really don't see anything wrong with remembering as long as it's factual. It happened, it's part of American history. Many men gave their lives for what they believed in their hearts to be right. They surely weren't the first nor last group to fit that dsecription, just cause or not.

True, so true. I've never heard of anything myself. I think this is just some rumor that someone started because they got tired of hearing the statements made like the first two and thought it would rile a few people up. Guess it worked. Last year one area in South Carolina did celebrate a huge milestone about the Civil War on a former battlefield. There were several different events for a few months thru the spring and summer but I don't even remember hearing about as I only found out about thru my genealogy research. I thought it was very interesting myself as it IS part of history of THE U.S. which DOES include the "Southern States".
I have no problem whatsoever w/ the Civil War being studied more and not just from the Unions perspective which is what is usually taught. There IS much history about this country that DID occur IN the south much to many peoples surprise.
Each southern state honors their war dead individually. I'm not aware of any standardized remembrance day or month. Around 300,000 southerners lost their lives between 1861-1865, with North Carolina having the greatest losses.

Well, at the risk of starting the War Between the States all over again, I would like to remind folks, that the victor in any war is the one who writes the history of said war. Which means that, in most cases, both sides have not been heard, without someone playing loose and fast with the facts, particularly those of the vanquished. The South was not the first to consider secession. And, the vast complexities surrounding the politics of the times, between the North and the South, are such, that they are not as black and white as they may seem. And, I do not mean that as a pun. Secession is not a treasonous act. Else we, as the United States, would be considered treasonous, as we "seceded" from England. Secession, by definition is, simply, "to withdraw from an organization, (as religious communion or political party or federation)."

Holy moly your reputation bar looks like a VU meter at an Iron Maiden concert, lol.
..and I see no reason why we can't have something for the confederacy. I wouldn't make it a month, but at least a day for the southern states. You people lost entire limbs of your family trees in that war. The cause, whether it be right or wrong, some sort of remembrance is probably in order.
However, people lost real family members in that war. I don't see one day being a problem, PROVIDED it is used to remember the people, and not the ideals.
No crazies with stars-n-bars waving, shouting racial slurs, lol.
