She's not particularly funny but has a certain demeanor and voice that lends itself to being grating and her being somewhat raunchy. She's found a niche, if she didn't fill it somebody else would.
I laughed at a few of her jokes. None were particularly clever but sometimes when somebody says out loud what you know is true and its a little offensive it can be amusing. Obama being a black president until he screws up, that was an example.
Some of her jokes were in bad taste, unfunny and just mean. Limbaugh being the 20th hijacker.... ????? That was just dumb and totally lacking in compassion for those affected by 9/11.
By any chance, did Keith Olbermann name Sykes as one of the worst persons in the world for that remark? Had any republican made that joke he would have been all over them. So did he show the tiniest shred of character and integrity? I doubt it and even hope not, I wouldn't want to think I'd have to respect him even slightly.
Sorry but some people will stick with their defense of their party even if it means going to DISGUSTING levels. I don't care if O'riely made this joke, I would have the class to say it's stupid and wrong, obviously you don't. It's really sad how some people can make a laughing matter of 9/11 if it means attacking the other side. How about you don't act like a 4th grader for a day and see how that goes.
I love how people go out and say Republicans have no class, then go and defend this women. Looks like some one might need to look up the definition of hypocrite because they obviously don't know it.
I think we need to stop taking comedians seriously. It's their job to be funny or controversial. Look what happened to Don Imus. No one would have even blinked at his remarks (and networks and sponsors never did) until Sharpton and some unknown reverend made an issue of it for publicity and financial gain. His apology to the Rutgers girls was accepted, but then they file a lawsuit against him for millions. He comes back to radio as an emasculated pansy, hires two blacks to his comedic staff as a gesture of good will...who are not funny in the least, and his show is now a watered down shell of what it was. All because someone found an insult coming from a shock jock and decided to threaten boycotts of the corporate sponsors and lawsuits of the networks. Someone saw an opportunity to cash in on the race card and it worked. Imus had insulted everyone across the board, not just blacks, but there was an angle to play and money to be made, so he was the sacrificial lamb.
Comics and shock jocks thoughout history have used race in their routines...Pryor, Carlin, Murphy, Chris Rock, Robin Wiliams, Don Rickles, Howard Stern & Robin Quivers, Opie and Anthony, and the list goes on. We laughed at one another and ourselves and all was good. Suddenly race has become big business in the 21st century and we're all taking ourselves way too seriously. I'm not a big fan of Sykes stand up routine, but I like her in Curb Your Enthusiasm. I could care less what she says about some millionaire radio host. Limbaugh has said things of equal poor judgment and he's fair game.
It seems as if ALL liberals recently are as evil and downright cruel as Wanda Sykes. I have heard so many liberals say similar things to the things she said; it makes me sad sometimes that the Democrats belittle people for having a different position. I mean she called Rush Limbaugh the 20th Hijacker!!!! Could you imagine if someone told Obama he was the 20th Hijacker!!!! Liberals would go insane.
First for all, I question you putting Limbaugh and Obama on the same level. Limbaugh is a commentator, an entertainer really, and Obama is the POTUS. Interestingly your analogy feeds the idea that Limbaugh is running the Republican party.
Second, liberals don't go insane when people say things like that about our side, particularly at an event like that when said by someone attempting to be funny. We understand satire and insult comedy even when it fails or we don't see it as particularly humorous. Nothing to go insane about.
We do go nuts when the Stupid Right (which isn't all the Right) write, repeat and believe every ridiculous accusation that pops up in some forwarded email. First we laugh at the obvious stupidity in the claims, then when realize people believe it, we go nuts not because of what is said but that people really believe the crap.
No one believes Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker. But start an email that claims Obama was and I guarentee someone out there will believe it. That makes us insane. The believing, not the saying.
What an informed answer! Now maybe this time, lilypad or you can actually answer the question.
