Roberts has been Chief Justice of the Supreme Court for 4 years now, a DC Court Justice, a million dollar a year corporate defender, and was twice hired by Kenneth Starr. Despite this background, during his confirmation hearings he stated that his jurisprudence would be characterized by “modesty and humility.”

I guess it all depends on how you define those terms. After four years on the Court he looks like anything but a "humble moderate" but, rather, that of a doctrinaire conservative. The kind of humility that Roberts favors reflects a view that the Court should almost always defer to the existing power relationships in society.

In every major case since he became the nation’s seventeenth Chief Justice, Roberts has sided with;
the prosecution over the defendant,

the state over the condemned,

the executive branch over the legislative,

and the corporate defendant over the individual plaintiff.

Even more than Scalia, Roberts has served the interests, and reflected the values, of the contemporary Republican Party.

At least Roberts had more stone than Cheny, who (probably faked an injury so that he) didn't have to stand in Obama's presence. On inauguration day Roberts had to swear in as President a man who spoke eloquently aganist his confirmation as Chief Justice.

Considering some of Roberts' comments on race during oral arguments he does seem to have some "issues", I'' bet his stomach was roiling that day.
