Bush is an ignorant hick who is beholden to his interests. He's also a shill for religious extremists, which is completely terrifying. But, he is not as bad as the pre-Civil War presidents.
Bush's actions are disgraceful, but Andrew Jackson also did some terrible things in regards to civil liberties and many people (including some supposed progressives) cite him as a great president.
He's not so ignorant as he is being heavily influenced. The presedential candidate is just a puppet. Its a matter of who is pulling his strings to get what they want. He couldnt stand on the podium he does without a lot of support. He's came in like NWO mafioso. But they're backtracking and even selling him out because their is division in their own interests at how to proceed. They wont comprimise their plans for one man. Bush wont be so untouchable when they cut many political ties to him. Theres always a fresh crop. Its a revolving door system. Illusion presents the structure of liberty and freedom. But its a finely tuned construct that moves on its own. It only requires a little nudging and tinkering now and again.
I've heard plenty of emotion, yet little facts. I've read misperceptions, distortions of facts, and outright inaccurate statements. In this thread, I've read that Bush lied to get us into Iraq, without any specific examples given. Besides, we've been there and addressed that. I've read that Clinton left Bush an economy on the upswing, yet, in fact, when Clinton left we were in a recession which started in the 3rd qtr. of 2000, and that everything Bush has done has been a total failure, yet, because of the Bush taxcuts, the country is doing extremely well economically (See the list of accomplishments thread). I've read that Carter made the best of what he had, yet he raised taxes and government power which resulted in double-digit inflation, double-digit unemployment, and double-digit interest rates. He gave away the Panama Canal and weakened the U.S. military.
I've read that Bush is to blame for the inaction of state and local authorities during Hurricane Katrina, though federal help/relief is not permitted unless requested by the governor. I've read that he should be impeached, yet no one can provide a particular "high crime or misdemeanor" which he can be charged with. I've read he has committed "genocide" on the middle class, yet he has raised their standard of living by cutting their tax rates and the rate of captial gains.
Come on people. Provide some facts for your claims instead of emotional rhetoric.
Well, we meet again Amaznjohn (I've been away for a week). Before I continue, please don't take this as an attack--it's just an observation based on our prior 'meetings'. As in other threads, you keep clamoring for facts and proof, but I seriously doubt that it would matter. You ask for someone to convince you but you appear to have no intention of believing them. You could just as easily surf the net and find the facts, but you are here in these forums looking for an argument ostensibly surrounded by people who don't want to play this losing game. I think enough facts have come forward, enough mistakes have been made, enough unAmerican actions have been taken to seriously qualify Mr. Bush as the worst president in our history. At least, in MY life anyway. The man is owned by big business, was installed (not elected) to rubberstamp their whims into law, and is so f=ing arrogant that the mere sight of him or sound of his voice makes me turn the TV channel. A leader, he is not. An honest man, he is not. A genuinely caring individual, he is not. A competent man, he SURELY is not. A man who could make millions of US citizens lose their pride and patriotism is not a good President.

I agree that this is a bad situation. I wonder if it's by design. I mean, if we get so frustrated with our country that we consider it a joke, won't that make it easy for someone or something to snatch it away from us? If we stop caring and become apathetic, then it would make it easier to accept the NAFTA superhighway stretching from Mexico to Canada. It would make it easier for foreign countries to buy our interstates and for dangerous Mexican truck drivers to occupy two lanes of the road.
What a wonderful way to ruin a country: make it citizens not care, discourage and inhibit them from participating, scare them into obedience, subject them to surveillance, and commit crimes against them and others in foreign lands. All of this serves to erode their faith in their own value as a nation and makes them completely willing to abandon it for something already waiting in the wings. MY fear is that by the time most Americans realize what's happening, it will be too late. The joke will have been made on us.

What's worse the joke we have turned into on the world stage while losing sovreignty in bits and pieces? Or laughing at each other and blaiming each other for whats wrong? Bush will be a fall guy for something a lot larger. Dont forget he didnt do this alone. You will see a lot of people getting on board, but thats because its in their own interest. Even if you impeach him, there are still a lot more like him with power to deter anyone from steeping forward about anything. We have to win our state goverments and take the fight to Washington DC.

That sums it up. I haven't watched him on tv since Katrina- that press conference made me physically ill.
Someone mentioned that GWB seems like a puppet. I agree with this and will take it a bit further.
I've mentioned this theory to family members, who all think I'm nuts. Feel free to join.
I believe that Bush is, for lack of a better word (deep breath here), slow. I truly in my heart believe this. I don't use the word "slow" lightly. I myself have a special needs child and I don't like to use old-fashioned and possibly inaccurate intelligence assessments. But in this case...that is the word that comes to my mind each and every time I hear this man speak. Slow.
He literally sounds like he's parrotting back something someone said to him. Mommy, maybe, or Daddy. He for all the world sounds like a child who doesn't exactly know what he's fighting for, but some Big Person was fighting for the same thing so it must be right. No one can be so adamant, so black-and-white, so CERTAIN of something he perhaps doesn't even understand himself, as can a child.
I imagine him at night, alone in his office, concentrating hard, his lips moving, to memorize where various countries and states are, who the "bad guys" are and why (based on what someone wishes him to believe), then looking up from his paperwork and frowning hard at nothing as he tries to repeat back to himself what he's just memorized. I'm not being sarcastic here. I can literally envision this.
I have noticed in many cases, but especially during debates, that when people clap for GWB, his entire face explodes into semi-surprised grins, and he often giggles. You can see his Adam's apple bobbing through the round of applause. He honestly looks like nothing so much as a three-year-old who doesn't know what he just did, but it made all the grown-ups happy, and so in response, he looks up and all around and laughs with joy.
He also has those funny little low-lying Fetal Alcohol Syndrome ears.
There. I said it! Mwah hah.
But it's really not funny at all. And I'm actually not trying to be funny. He's like the mentally challenged soldier in Full Metal Jacket. Throw a gun in his hands and he can manage to follow along, but he has no clue why, or what it's for. Only that it's demanded of him.
I feel sorry for GWB, and I feel even more sorry for our country, not because of what "he" has done but because of what he has been told to read and sign, and he, child-like, has followed to the letter, frowning in concentration with his lips very tight...as if he's trying reeeeeeeeeeeally hard to make sure he's spelling his name right.
Don't know enough about US History to answer this one. He is on par with Robert Mugabe as the leader with the most negative press though. Is he as bad as Mugabe? At least Bush's puppetiers try to hide his screw-ups.
