so what do you think?? in my opinion it should be illegal!! it takes to much concentration to text while driving and takes your focus off of driving your vehicle. i guess the big question is do you want to die from someone who is just chatting???
driving while texting is so stupid we shouldn't need a law against it.
driving is the most dangerous thing most amerians will ever do, yet because it has become a familiar practice, we have people who ignore the risk and drive distracted or impaired.
it's really that simple, and until we have a serious shift in how our culture views driving and licensing procedures we'll have distracted drivers and laws that attempt to solve a problem that shouldn't even exist.
Well I hope this thread is short lived because I can't think of a single solitary reason why anyone in their right mind would argue contrary to position that texting while driving is totally irresponsible, reckless and dangerous and as such should me illegal.

Agree with you. No law should be created to show how stupid one can be. However, such a rule should be left to a business, for example. In other words, lets say that I drive a bus, train, fly an aircraft, etc., all with public in them. In this case, the company could have such a rule, which in turn becomes part of the hiring process.
Other things are just as back as texting while driving: applying make-up, looking at the radio's display, reaching for food inside a bag, swatting a bee that flies inside the cab, lighting a cigarette, looking at the map on the GPS, turning one's head to talk or scream at the passenger, having sex, bending over to pick the can of soda rolling on the floor, talking on the telephone, etc.

teens only do it because they copy what they see
mom or dad taught them how to drive and passed along all their bad habits
mom or dad talk on the phone while driving and the teen equates their texting ability with mom or dad talking on the phone (even with hands free)
it's "information cascading" that passes down and magnifies things like poor driving skills, skills that are passed on by the worst possible driving teacher, mom and dad (and the total rip off they call driver's education).
see below, start at 1:25, six hours on a skidpad for a kid to learn to drive in Finland
It would be hart to enforce...it's kind of hard to tell if someone is texting and driving...
It should also be illegal to fiddle around with your purse, read a nap, apply make up, etc while driving because those things can cause accidents too.
I'd much rather ride mass transit any day of the week but the public transportation in my area sucks and people love their cars.
