The cowardice of the US media and corporations continues apace, as the Chinese -- virtually in secret -- tighten their grip on Tibet and move forward with the erdication of the Tibetan people and the Buddhist religion.

The corporate sponsors of the Beijing Olympics (McDonald's, Coke, etc.) are shaking in their boots that the Chinese will perform some over-the-top atrocity that no one can ignore, thus reducing the TV audience and sponsorship payback in which they invested millions.

The US and international media, so daring in their mockery of Larry Craig for tapping his foot in a men's room, and eager to find a US soldier accidentally harming an Iraqi civilian, look the other way or downplay the shocking contempt for human rights currently being played out in Beijing and other parts of China as pathetic little knots of Tibetans are beaten, shot, and imprisoned for protesting the Chinese rape of their homeland.

How long will the international commnity continue to kowtow to the Chinese communists and their totalitarian regime? How long will the media continue to disregard their responsibilities as independent journalists who value human rights?

This should be a lesson to communist and socialist.. Governments big enough to give you everything are big enough to take everything away.
Freedom is to be defended, and I have enough hard time trying to secure my rights in America. We should be out of IRAQ, and half the world. All trade with China should end and the communists and socialist should fail to the system the erodes freedom. We are falling because we are trying to become socialist with providing for the rest of the world instead of removing the taxes here at home. Liberty or Death.

A good website: International Campaign for Tibet: Home which gives the latest news on this debacle. Also I give to the Richard Gere Foundation. I am for a boycott on the Olympics, not sure what it would mean economically though.

I think because China isn't a "Western, Christian-based, liberal democracy" it just doesn't occur to some folks that it could do anything "wrong", "bad", or "evil"..only the "West" can do that.....and we have the 'guilt' to back that up...

China? Different situation. No guilt, means no admission of 'wrongdoing'...no ADMISSION (like WE so often make), means that 'wrongdoing' just didn't happen....and since it didn't HAPPEN, our media have no interest in reporting it. Besides, to "butt into" the affairs of China might make us look 'racist'.....what they do is THEIR business, or so the thinking goes...

I don't know why we all think China is communist/socialist. It is in fact a pseudo-fascist capitalist society, or possibly a highly regulated aristocracy. Socialism is a system of government in which the workers are the ruling class; in China the workers make practically no money at all and have zero rights, while the corporations that do business in China are allowed to prosper at their will. This is not socialism, and certainly not even close to communism. So yes, what China is doing to Tibet is brutal and wrong, but it's not to be blamed on socialism or communism, since, were Tibet to exist, it would be far more socialist than China is today.

China is communist and is has a communist china party of government. Socalism is not the system of government where workers are the ruling class the government is the ruling class. Setting lower standards and incomes thru heavy taxes to make everyone equal. They say they are providing "free health care" yet your income taxes 50% of your salary and only go up. That doesnt include the other taxes for GAS, etc etc. The US government thru it's foreign aid is spreading socialism to the rest of the world, giving tax dollars away while our country thru taxes is being wiped out and freedoms are being lost. Tibet and tenement square are typical examples of Communist rule. Of course typical communist and socialist will not admit the power of the state and how in a non free society government will destroy freedoms. I'm sick of Americans or EU people thinking socialism is for the working class. Anyone how references people as "Working Class" is a socialist and uses this terms to define it's political view point of the typical working person. Some how we are a class of people to be managed and be victims as though other "classes" are different and privledged. Giving more power to governments always erodes are personal freedoms. It is proven thru all histroy that BIG government managing what I can say, do, income, sex, religion and race destroy the nation. Russia, China, British Empire, Nazi, are examples of socialist and communist countries destroying individuals freedoms.

China is not in any form capitalist.. China only lets it open markets for the cause of communism needs. To increase it's miltary and give wealth to the state. China's political prisoners and voices of freedoms were silenced with a bullet in the head and the bill was given to their family members. That is the socialist and communist political system that shows the truth. Yes we have poor and those sick, but we have the best system to offer those to get out of poverty while millions and millions of people stave and die in China. In Russia people waited 4 hours in line for bread and only bread because the system of communism doesn't work. Where the government controls the food and it's people. Keep your socialist and communist ideas out of my country
