It's Memorial Day weekend, have a couple of beers, a bunch of hot dogs but just for a moment (no need to get overly morose) take a few seconds to remember all of the young men and women of all races, and creeds who have given their lives, who are giving their lives as we speak, and who will give their lives tomorrow in the service of this country.
It shouldn't matter if they died in a righteous endeavor or a fool's mission, right or wrong they answered the nations call to duty and gave their lives by doing so. It is so sad to lose them when they are so young.
PS - I swear if anyone turns this thread into a political pissing match I will climb through my monitor and beat the virtual living crap out of whoever starts it or gets involved in it.
I will remember my husband and so many of our friends who will, in my memory, be forever young. And I will think of all the things that they could have done....would have done...
Location: I currently exist only in a state of mind. one too complex for geographic location.

decided to go over to the other side of the cape fear river today. went to the USS battleship north carolina memorial. standing on the deck of the ship, I heard a BOOM, BOOM! I looked back towards the city and there was a HUGE pirate ship sailing in the cape fear firing off blanks from a cannon. it was pretty random, but really cool. in a little bit, I will be sitting out on my front porch watching them shooting the fireworks from the deck of the battleship.
I honor every Vet who has served this country. They have fought and died so that all of us can have the freedom we enjoy. I salute each and every one of you and offer you my heartfelt thanks.
To my dear parents, may they rest in peace. Both served their country, my father as a Merchant Marine and my mom as a nurse in the Pacific front in WWII. They were both young, especially my mom, who enlisted right out of nursing school.
