The Democratic Party has nearly destroyed poor black families. LBJ’s Great Society, founded to help the poor, was instead a tragedy for black America. Like many other good-intentioned programs the liberals have come up with over the years, it was a disaster.

If you are going to quote a source at least find one that actually knows the history of the 1935 Social Security Act, particularly Title IV, or at least the history of prior existing state welfare programs that way you and the cited source won't looks so foolish by accusing the Great Society as being the culprit.

By the way, here is a good overview of the actual programs initiated under the Johnson's "Great Society."

IMHO, I think that the cocaine epidemic hit black families hard. The psychological stigmas left over from slavery also help. Unemployment helps. Gender roles have changed, so that has played apart in it...

There are a lot of reasons, we just do not know how to fix them.

There are a lot of reasons, we just do not know how to fix them.

The Moynihan Report that was published actually in 1965 foresaw the demise of the urban african american family structure. That structure was already on shaky grounds in the northern ghettos but the crack epidemic of the 80's and 90's was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Obama at least is sensitive to inner city problems since he worked with them for years as a community activist. He also appointed Adolfo Carrion former Bronx President as his urban czar. Van Jones (an African American activist for green collar jobs as a way to fight poverty, finally got his book) is one of his top advisors. I also think the talk (that's all it is for now) about seeing addiction as an illness rather than a crime is a step in the right direction.

Nearly 50 percent of black males in Milwaukee lack jobs - The Daily Cardinal

The loss or decline in U.S manufacturing is what has hurt Black families the most because Black males have been overlly concentrated in those jobs. This high unemployment of Black males has caused too many not to be able to finacially support a family.

That high unemployment rate mentioned above won't produce too many marrigable Black men in Milwaukee and in other cities.

Liberal policies have hurt more in the sense that over emphasizing gov't programs aren't the way to make Black communities economiclly self sustaining over a long term. An increase in Black entreprenurship and learning how to invest money is what Blacks need to improve their economic condition long term. With $800 billion in spending power Black Americans shouldn't have the poverty issues that we have.

This excuse is constantly parroted as the reason for the black family collaspe.

You mean something that happened over 130 years ago? How is that possible when no black person alive today has ever been a slave nor do they know anyone who has?

Why is it that somehow the black family had less the 20% illegitimacy rates until after the 1960's social programs? The pre 1960's blacks were alot closer to slavery than they are today, so I don't buy that crap. Just more retarded excuses.

Are Japanese Americans that were born after world war 2 affected by the "psychological stigmas" of internment camps?

Another reason why liberals are basically idiots.

Yes. I do believe that and there is evidence. Sorry to burst your small bubble.

Psychological effects are not something that just goes away....it continues. Please educate yourself on the situation and then come back to me.

I will help you.

The first article is from a well known and educated Black Psychologist. Also the APA has acknowledged that the effects from enslavement still exists to this day.

Oh and I love that I am an idiot. A college educated one at that.

“The assumption that spending more of the taxpayer's money will make things better has survived all kinds of evidence that it has made things worse. The black family- which survived slavery, discrimination, poverty, wars and depressions- began to come apart as the federal government moved in with its well-financed programs to "help."”
