Republicans will have to transform into true small government, pro liberty group.
As the economy collapses, it will be harder and harder to issue blame elsewhere from the current administration and congress. More spending will fuel further catastrophe, and sooner or later things will be forced to change. Real change, not just rhetoric like 2008 gave us.

That's right - the GOP has to reform itself into a more socially moderate, but fiscally conservative, party, ditching the RW religious extremists.
It's going to have to promote low spending, low taxes, getting the national debt paid down FAST, no more preemptive wars, no more 8th Amendment violations, etc.
Hopefully America will come around after the consequences of the spendathon become more clear.

waht do u mean by regional? teh democrats can be considered regional as well. I think they are losing power, but i don't think the Dems are necessarily gaining it. I think the country as a whole is just turning into moderate conservatives a la' meghan mcain but more partiless and vote according to issues rather than along party lines.
No party can win an American election without moderates. That said, the GOP has to decide which moderate they want to be: Do they want to be socially moderate or fiscally moderate? If they want to win, they should probably be more socially moderate.

And the problem recently has been that they wish to be fiscally liberal, socially conservative.
can they win national elections without moderate voters?
Neither party can win without moderate voters.
