Amadinejad is only a figurehead, the real power is wielded by the ayatollah.

True, but it does say a lot about the Iranian people

wow..if ahmanutjob is voted out of office and the new iranian president decides to allow full access to UN inspectors, it would mean that Obama defeated him without firing a single shot. What are the neo-cons going to say then?

Listen, Corinthians. The basis for this thread is just not there.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is a declared theocracy. The the major policy decisions are made by the chief mullah. It doesn't matter who the president is because he's just an administrator who serves at the behest and with the permission of the ayatollah. In fact anyone who disagrees with the ayatollah on major policies is not even allowed to be a candidate.

The policies of nuke weapons development, support for extremist and terror groups, as well as internal oppression and widespread executions have all been in effect for many years and through multiple presidencies, including the "moderate" president before the current lunatic.

Any attempt at change can and will be overridden by the chief mullah.

This is true and Khamenei the Ayatollah has already stated that he finds Ahmadinejad the most "favourable" President Iran has had in years... It will be interesting to see how he responds if his puppet will be bumped out by the people in favour of a moderate -
