No, but I really don't think Imus beung Imus, something he's done for 30+ years, should be taken as a major national castastrophe. The coverage is far beyond its merit. Many times today the one thing PC means to me is we take ourselves waayyyyyyyyyy too seriously!

It was brought to my attention today that in the '70s Stevie Wonder wrote a lyric in which he referred to himself as a "nappy headed lil' boy". I hope Al gives him a good talking to

It's beyond "PC". What he said was really nasty. But, the subjects are grown ups, too. Sticks and stones, etc.

When they see their advertising revenues plummet for the duration of the suspension, they may change their tune about what's tolerable.

You hit the nail on the head, in media today $$$$$$ rule.

What he said was nasty but so are many things said these days both in the news and in song lyrics that get much less media attention.

The one thing I'd like to know, can Al Sharpton HONESTLY say he has NEVER made a racial comment in his life?

Default Ignorant, old fashioned name calling

This is not about Sharpton or Jackson or Richards or Imus. It is about all who talk the same way around the water cooler and other places. Please people, open your hearts and try to pass on each day that we are all people of the world. With all the bad and negativity that is going on in the world, do we need to call any one or any group names of any kind? Do we really? Can't we get above this type of thing and just take it out of our vocabulary and our everyday lives, out of the work place, out of the schools and just treat each other with respect? Can't we look at people as people and not as a color or a hairstyle? Remember the old saying "if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all."

I wonder how different the tone of this thread would be like if Sean Hannity had said the same thing.

"Imus?? What was he thinking!! Surely he must have some predjudice in him to come up with that statement..Do you think we will have to apoligize for him one hundred fifty years from now???No one is listening to him anyway."
blue62

Actually, he has millions of listeners, and is close to CNN in viewers. I am a big fan since 1998. Used to rise at 3:00 AM in Cali to catch his show out of NY. His acerbic and caustic on-air personality is definitely not for everyone.
The show is often humorous and always informative. Don Imus does not serve up softball questions to his guests, the kind you hear on Fox and CNN. Many prominent athletes, columnists, authors and entertainers have participated, but he usually reserves his most vitriolic attacks for politicians, although Jim Webb did get off lightly last year.

I do wish I didn't have to wince so much during the show. It is embarrassing to listen to the insults that Don and Bernie, his producer, mouth after a guest is off the line and, in the case of Peter Jennings, even before the interview.

Perhaps some good will come of this latest episode. Many voices are calling for his termination and, failing that, are hoping that the sponsors will disappear. Could happen, but Imus would just pop up on another station.

I would like to see him come back after the suspension. I think he finally realizes that there are consequences for going too far. His thoughtless attempt at humor succeeded in hurting others, and there is a price to be paid.

Why is blacks criticizing Imus about his statement and demand Imus to be fired from his job but it is ok for New Orleans Mayor saying this "Chocolate New Orleans" and still have his job.

Bunch of hypocrites.
