"the economy has stepped back from the brink," doesnt mean our troubles are over. I HOPE you all know that and are just being obtuse for the fun of it.

Ask your local government.

Many counties across the country have created programs that use some stimulus money to save peoples homes. it's not a call Washington project. Its locally managed. If your area doesn't, it's not Washington's fault.
Same goes for Job creation. It's not a magic wand. Programs and plans have to be created and approved first. But they start locally.

Many banks offer programs too. But they won't come to you. You have to look.
(Just not the ones that recieved the original funds. They have a business to run and cant be bothered with the little guy [my opinion])

If anyone is interested the following is from friend of mine a financial advisor whose been pretty accurate in his predictions...I asked about the recent surge in the stock market if it was for real...bull or bear market trap...

The whole deal is a fraud tonyandclaire. Goldman is doing the majority of the trading in the entire market using your TARP funds. CEO's sold at a ratio of 8:1 last month which is the highest in history. Corporate tax receipts paid to the IRS were off more than 50% from last year meaning the federal government has NO money.

The pre-released stress tests, maybe not the ones they will publish show that most of the big banking institutions are insolvent.

Everything you see and touch will be taxed massively in the near future to raise capital. States unemployment funds are dry. There is no money to work on infrastructure or to pay down debt.

Retirement accounts are already decimated and those that thought they could live on 5% interest on their savings will not get that money. IOW, the best they can do is hope to draw down on that savings and never replace it.

All you have to do is look around you tonyandclaire at what is actually happening with business rather than reading the BS published by the government on the internet. Existing home sales may be up, but when you can buy a like new 1700 square foot home in Cape Coral for $35K that is 3 years old, you know something is wrong.

One issue that no one has addressed is the value of small business. Besides the lost market cap of Nasdaq and NYSE companies think of the lost value of local business. Think of a cabinet shop that did $2M annually in sales and is now doing $1M or less. When the person wants to sell that business what will it be worth, if someone can find the financing to buy it. Multiply that by some 50 million small business's and you can see what the future looks like.

The government just announced that there will be no increase in SS for cost of living for possibly the next two years. Other than gas, pork, and milk I cannot find too many things that have come down in value in the past year.

What we are looking at is the same thing I discussed in the past. The US is headed toward an equilibrium with the world economy. IOW, we are eventually headed toward 3rd world status as funds to purchase anything or produce any products dry up. Add to that increased taxes and as you can see the picture is not pretty.

I could elaborate and cite about a 100 or so more reasons why one should be scared sh@#$%tless but truly all you really have to do is look around you to see what is happening.

"When you look at the economy right now, I think it's safe to say we have stepped back from the brink, that there is some calm that didn't exist before," isnt claiming that the worst is over.

And the other sides ideas are what?

My list:
1. Start another war. (is Granada available?)
2. Give more tax breaks to the rich.
3. Continue letting the industries be self regulated.
4. Blame liberals. (thats easy)
5. Wrap self in the flag, Cry socialist. If that doesn't work try communist.
6. Just say no. Until 2010. or 2012. or 2016. or 2020. Just keep saying it.

Of course if all else fails Call Limbugod & Saintanty for advice.

If they had any ideas, they should be promoting them, and convincing the public of them, but they haven't. Wonder why?

Ah #5.

What advice? (or what right advice, since this has been going on for decades, not the last 100 days, or the last couple of election cycles)

I don't subscribe to any political or religious ideology. Maybe the ideology of the Marx Brothers.

7. Launch a listening tour... oops, the Boss says to call it an education tour... but we have nothing to say... okay, scratch that.

8. Spend weeks of time and money in Freedom Fries mode, ham-fistedly trying to name the Democrats the Democrat Socialists... uh-oh: inadvertently inspire new attention and sympathy to the REAL Democatic Socialist Party, who were more offended than amused by this empty-headed stunt. Okay, scratch that one too.
