I have always heard about how Israel is most powerful nation militarily - 2nd to the US. Can anyone explain to me why would the all-mighty powerful Israel, in addition to its nuclear power, most powerful Air Force, be so worried and scared of a small state called Palestine next to it?
Israel confiscated 78% of the Land of Palestine and now it is crying out its case to the world about the rest of 22%. All of 3 millions Palestinians who live in old Palestine and new Palestine [west bank and Gaza] are indigenous people. Most of Israel's population came to Palestine through illegal immigration from all over the world. Take for example, the current Foreign Minister who came as an immigrant and was not even born in Israel.
So what is the big fuss? What does it say about Israel power - Isn't a bit over-rated?
Because israel is an illegitimate state and they know 96% of the world would like to see israel cease to exist.
This Question shows the control of Israel. Israel could crush Palastine in an instant. Israel had the Palastinians surrounded and could have finished them off but have worked hard to make sure Palastine has a State. It is NOT Israels fault that the Palastinian leader (Araffat) took every dollar that the west gave to Palastine and put it into his French bank accounts. It's NOT israels fault that Palastine will NOT live in peace.
Israel was just deserted uninhabiatable land when Israel was created. They didn't blame the world or cry, they just got on with the job of becoming a succesful nation. Israel is NOT scared of Palastine but if the shoe was on the other foot, Palastine would have blown Israel out of existance.

Its not a matter of fear. It is a matter they keep launching rockets into Israel. Israel certainly could destroy the state. But the political Price would be to high.

Maybe 96% of your world but in the real world 96% can see that you cannot negotiate with animals. This can be seen with the Palastinians and other middle eastern arab states. Stop whining and get on with the job of turning the land now occupied by Palastine into a viable state. Araffat raped his own people...stop blaming Israel or anyone else. Are the Palastinian people INCAPABLE of creating a state? Obviously....YES!

Israel is more then capable to exist with or without us but we support them and have open trade as well as sharing of certain technologies from them to us and vice versa. I do wish that they can work it out and coexist but with every country or area,you do have extremists on all sides that make it a little more diffcult.
Israel doesn't have the second most powerful military in the world. That would fall to China or Russia (with India an up and comer). Israel does have, however, the best technology money can buy (strait from the USA, their Strike Eagles are better than our own), and a reputation for aggression. Why are they worried about Palestine? Because Palestinian terrorists have a history of indiscriminately targeting Israeli citizens. I don't think it's fair to say that "Israel stole Palestinian land," simply because that land was first owned by the Canaanites, then the tribes of Israel, then the Palestinians (and back and forth for a while, with the Romans owning it for a while as well), and now the Israelis again. There is no right and wrong in this conflict. Both sides have made mistakes, and both sides have been victims. Let's not pretend that the larger Arab nations give a damn about the Palestinians, because they don't, but they hate Israel more than they look down on the Palestinians, and a motto of "let's kill the Israelis" works well in their propaganda and recruiting messages.
You're right they do not have the second most powerful military but do have the second most powerful air force.Russia is nothing nowadays. They are the equivalency of the U.S if most of the states broke away.China and North Korea are places to be reckoned with though.

mossomo: You don't really want to get into the comparison game of how many missles and bombs. But compare the number of deads and driven out of thier homes. On this scale, you would lose the argument.
Jordan has been Jordan for Jordanians before Israel was created. At least Jordan did not drive any people out when it was created where Israel drove out 1.5 millions arabs from their land. You should Thank Jordan for taking them in and let Israel be whatever it wants to be. Jordan even blocked the PLO from launching misseles and fighting across the borders into Israel.
Now you want to turn Jordan into a state and drive out the 3 Million Jordanians from thier home land.
Maybe it will be the last chance for Israel to exist because that would turn everyone Palestinians and Jordanians into unparallled and long unconventional war; Take for example Hezbollah along small borders on the Lebanese front when they kicked Israel's Army ass. For one full month, Israel Army could not even go further than few miles in Southern Lebanon. Read Israelies newspaper how they describe the big loss in that 2006 war. This is with Israel most impressive and sophiscated weapons.
Be careful for what you ask for. All of this just to avoid giving back 22% of the land to the Palestinians. I geuss Jews will always be Jews. Never give anything back.
