the government can always be counted on to look out for themselves, no matter what the economy is doing.

No Social Security COLA increase for 2010
in the past 15 months, the meltdown in the financial markets has wiped out $2 trillion of Americans' retirement savings, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

Apparently gov't workers average salary is something like $72K year and over $100K with benefits which is TWICE the private sector and they just got a raise again.

a shameful thing that we as americans should bring to the attention of foxnews and any other news outlet who will listen. 2 trillion dollars, an amount of which the average american cannot even get a conception, can be drummed up as give aways, but nothing to really care for the elderly. there should be the same hew and cry that the country gave when the wall street crowd screwed america. unfortunately, the elderly--- social cast aways---are expendible. what a shame!

This is dated March 8 2008.
"President Bush had proposed a 2.9 percent pay raise for federal employees. Congress has consistently approved equal pay raises for civilian employees and military personnel."
Is there a more recent article stating that fed workers (and the military who also were scheduled for a raise) did receive those increases, or are still on track to receive them?

Don't forget.....
Right after all that outrage about the AIG exec bonus from bailouts, the Feds allowed Fannie and Freddie to pay bonuses to their employees -- keep in mind, the Feds gave Freddie & Fannie money to keep them afloat. Fannie & Freddie execs said they needed to pay the bonuses in order to retain their employees.

Sooo... Fannie & Freddie employees are getting their bonus from your tax dollars.

Hey main stream media - WHERE is the outrage and news stories flaming the citizens into outrage and anger?
Where are the people picketing the homes of the Fannie & Freddie execs like they did the AIG execs?

The bonuses for 7,600 employees will total about $210 million over 18 months, the Wall Street Journal reported on its website, quoting a letter to Grassley from the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, which regulates the companies.

Even more ludicrous is the disparity between federal gov't workers' health benefits and those of the rest of the population.

Take a look at this chart to see how much Federal Employees pay for their health insurance coverage:

Now, think about what you pay.....

Ludicrous??So you want to raise the cost of health care for government workers to include the military?? The more prudent thing to do would be to offer the government plan to everybody..Oh, that's what Obama already proposed

Show me where fed workers make $72k a year. You might want to look at opm.gov and see the rates. $72k would be rather high, after someone was in service for over 20 years, has met educational and licensing requirements and would probably make more on the outside.

Want their health benefits, get a federal job.
You're the one against universal health care, you're against unions and you hate the government.

Then do something about it, other than whine.
Geez.

Tank. You do know that "offering the government plan to everybody" would mean that you would have to pay the TOTAL premium, not the employee part. Looking at the chart provided by Ray, the total premium costs are similar to what I already pay for a private plan.

Opening up the fed plan at these rates unfortunately doesn't look like I would save any money at all, and I live in the worst state to purchase private health insurance. I was hoping that the Fed plan would make a quantifiable difference in premiums, but I guess it isn't meant to be.
