Only 7 states in the US have laws against this.
I remember one time I thought I could handle this at a stop light, well of course I didn't get my text done before the light changed and I thought I could do both. It was seconds into it that I found that I could not so I stopped.
I am astonished from what I have seen on the Dr. Phil show today. A teenager got up there and talked about how she regularly texts and drives.
Then of course they brought on a woman whose daughter was driving along, she had a green light, as she was going through the intersection, a young man who was texting and didn't see the light change plowed into her and killed her. 17 and dead because someone decided to text.
One girl said some insane amount of texts she does per day. I have to say that my daughter will loose her phone and her car if I even hear that she is doing this.
I text but I don't look at my phone while I do it, & I rarely text anyway. I know someone who texts constantly & I do mean constantly while driving. She ended up rear-ending my best friend.
What gets on my nerves is the fact that before cell phones, the world went along just fine. Now it has become ubiquitous and people are so dependent on these things that it is part of the dumbing down process. I have a cell phone and keep it with me for the possibility if an emergency. The idea of constant contact with anyone makes me panic. I value my privacy and that "twitter" nonsense also proves that far too many people are void of any creative or intelligent thoughts of their own. Having to be anyone's ars or having anyone up your ars on a steady basis displays a total lack of individuality and is very Orwellian. Anyone that causes the death of another because of the ridiculous activity of texting, should be thrown in jail in soliltary confinement to force them to think for a change!
I live in New York, which happens to be one of the states that does have a law against using a hand-held device while driving. The problem is, I can't recall the last time I saw the law enforced...while at the same time, I can't recall a day when I didn't see people driving while using hand-held devices.
It seems to me that if you make a law, but don't enforce it, why then you haven't really got a law at all. But what would I know about such things?
Nope. I also pull over if I get an important phone call, otherwise it goes to voicemail. People where I live don't pay attention while driving, so I have to be extra alert to avoid getting killed.
