“We must continue our commitment to deter the demand inside our
country, stop the supply on and beyond our borders and increase
the accountability within drug fighting programs. We must win the
War on Drugs by 2003.”
—House Speaker Dennis Hastert, February 25, 1999

Its time to face the music. The drug war is not working. It is time to take a step back, realize that marijuana is far and away the most popular drug, and legalize it. It will cripple the illegal drug trade. over 50% of these guys business is marijuana. if it's not such a lucrative business anymore, and the money saved from enforcing marijuana laws are put towards preventing drugs like coke and heroin from entering our country, we will be much better off

I agree. And whether it cripples the drug trade or not, freedom is the more important principle. Let adults do what they want as long as they're not directly harming anyone else.

Agreed. It makes more economic sense to incarcerate these drug offenders in prisons and then release them before their sentences are completed due to overcrowding and/or complaining about the cost of prisons and the salaries of the prison guards hired to babysit potheads...

All drugs should be legal...the drug war has wrecked this country's inner cities (and even smaller towns and suburbs). I don't really see that happening soon but marijuana will probably legalized in the next 20 years. When will people learn that prohibition makes the problem worse?

I agree it should be legal. I don't understand the double standard of people that want smaller government, but want more government intervention when it fits their beliefs.

You don't get it. Follow the money, my friend. There is too much money on the table to legalize it. If you think I'm talking about many governments in this World realizing a profit from the drug trade, you are correct.
