...rarely do you see any of them turning in their soc number and opting out of the Government's benefit package.
If you're talking SS, then WE have put into the system..not by choice.
Why opt out of your own money ? Granted, the government may have spent it instead of saved it but that is another story.

...SS? This is the extent of the benefit you believe you receive as a US citizen?
Well you must have low expectations of services then.
At 60 I'd think you'd know better!!!!!LOL
If your so proud of your little blue state, why don't you have it listed as a location when you post?
What's with the hostility? I do it for security purposes. Though I have mentioned the name of the state where I live (Colorado) frequently.
Maybe I've learned a few things in my 60 years.
And here's a good story for you. My daughter has had her camera in the shop since some time in April. She is leaving on a trip tomorrow morning. The camera had to be sent out of Denver, and she paid extra to have it sent via UPS to arrive in Denver today, and guess what? It will not arrive at the camera shop until tomorrow morning, after her plane has left. The same thing happened when my DH had some money sent via Fed Ex. It was supposed to arrive in time for us to put it in the bank one day, it arrived after business hours that day. Again, we paid extra to get it there in time to put it in the bank. So much for the highly vaunted "private enterprise".

And I could trade horror stories about the USPS.
Not the point.
Do you honestly believe a monopoly (in this case the USPS) is in the best interest of the consumer?
Competition is what drives excellence.
So simple.

Yeah, competition really helped in the two cases I related. Wonderful, private companies that did not follow through on what we paid them to do. I do not think competing mail delivery services would be beneficial.
I get through the DMV and post office very quickly. Wal-Mart or WinCo, on the other hand...
Wal-Mart's low prices are the sacrifice for service. Seems that millions of others are willing to stampede over you to get those low prices if you don't wanna go.
The post office consistently loses money, never turns a profit.
When the government runs things... the USPS, prime example. Enough said.
