Unless you want to take away due process, your other suggestions would each cost millions of dollars as well.

The only reason the death penalty costs so much to carry out today is because of the ridiculous roadblocks and mandatory appeals thrown into the process. Especially with today's technology and scientific evidence, we should be able to carry out the death penalty quickly and easily in cases where no doubt exists.
Take the Brian Nichols case here in Atlanta. This guy shot a judge, a court worker, a deputy Sheriff, and a federal agent....in cold blood and with many eye witnesses and camera footage...yet the inner city jury spared his life. Had they given him the death penalty, why could it not have been carried out immediately or at least after a reasonable appeal, assuming any grounds for appeals existed.
There is absolutely no reason for these sentences to wait 15 - 20 years with nonesense motions and hail Mary appeals. Reasonable appeals should be granted, but only if legal grounds exist.
