By offering this I think the government IS serving its people.

If you will look closely:

(5) The effect on the Nation, on those who serve, and on the families of those who serve, if all individuals in the United States were expected to perform national service or were required to perform a certain amount of national service.

This does not specify "kids" - it says ALL Americans. Moderator cut: let's not get too personal here please

I used kids, who are malleable and will have a greater long-term effect on the rest of the world, as the example.

Pathetic.
Excellent post.

I believe we should go back to the draft. two years mandatory service. It works other places. It would lower the cost of providing a military. Should be no exception for those going to college. At the very least, no military no federal aid including student loans.

Moderator cut: rude It's not my fault Obama, Congress and the Left continue to push this incredibly stupid idea of mandatory service for all.

(And the fact that kids are extremely malleable is my biggest objection of all)

What do you think about two mandatory years in military service? Or religious service?

Default Philanthropy is a rich man's game. I don't qualify.

The Government, also, does not qualify - for you see, it is in deep, deep debt.

Philanthropy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Once, a very long time ago, I asked a crank dealer if he had ever thought of HELPING others.

While meticulously portioning the huge pile of methamphetamine sulfate on his kitchen table, he said, "You don't have the wherewithal to help anyone, including yourself". He then proffered a "free" syringe full of product. (Stimulus package) He blew on my forearm while injecting.

I really don't like altruism that much.

I think the schools should be re-vamped to teach critical thinking as a method of obtaining knowledge, and planning and living one's life.
