Monday my oldest daughter flies to Alaska. Tuesday my youngest daughter and her husband fly to China. I wish they would just stay on the ground and not fly all the time. This scares me so much.
My wife just flew to Hawaii and back....They will be OK...
This is the same reasoning my youngest daughter used. Only she said that they will be extra careful about checking out all the planes after a tragedy such as this so it will be safer than ever.
Actually this is faulty reasoning. The safety practices in place are stringently followed for every flight so nothing has changed since the accident. Normally when accidents occur it is due to a very unusual chain of unfortunate events...
This is why I am terrified of flying & also why when I flew to Malaysia, I had an arsenal of valium on me. I simply went beddie bye the entire way there & back. All kidding aside, I hate whenever a plane crash happens, I always wonder about what those poor people in the plane were thinking at the time. Ghoulish, I know but I can't help myself. I feel bad for the families & friends & of course for the people on that flight.

yeah this is natural... It is not based on anything rational though... otherwise you would be afraid to step in a car or walk across the street, or go to a club for that matter... it is because we know that when something bad happens to an airplane - it is usually of falling from very high, blowing up and of something incredibly destructive.

I know. I hear time & again that flying is safer than driving....but everytime a plane crashes, it's devastating. We rarely hear of people walking away from a plane crash.

Not true - i'm not sure of percentage but the number of people walking away from plane crashes has increased and there are many examples - the crash in Toronto in 2005 where all 300+ pax walked away along with the turkish crash in Amsterdam a few months where only 8/179 perished (not bad) ago PLus the miracle on the Hudson where everybody walked - swam away
It depends on the nature of the crash but aircraft design has improved considerably.
