It's called "The Vision of the Annointed," a 1996 book by Thomas Sowell. It's one of the best books that I have ever read. It can be read entirely online at the following address. I bought this in paperback in '96 and was astounded at how clearly it illustrated faults in the liberal mindset.
They truly do believe themselves to be the "annointed ones" and this book provides a grounded perspective on that topic from one of the most gifted writers (in the social spectrum) of our time.
Try reading "American Fascists-The Christian Right and the War on America" by Chris Hedges.

however, isn't putting the entire book online like that essentially a form of piracy? i thought google was supposed to limit you to a couple of pages at a time.
I would suggest anyone check the credentials of someone who claims to "know" what the liberal mindset is, the appalling stupidity and intolerance of the rightwing in this country really negates the opinions of most of these people to be considered credible. To consider most, if not all, of these people unqualified to know anything about progressive politics because they inhabit the fringe's of right wing nutjobbery, like most of the conservative pundits in business today.
I read something recently by Sowell where he was attacking some minority figure (I forget who) and am reminded of the Clarence Thomas/Michael Steele/Thomas Sowell/ wing of the GOP, that master of illusion at inclusiveness .
Essentially, it reminds us that everyone has a price these days, and for some, its very low.
These men are essentially paid to attack disenfranchised blacks/working poor and blame their predicament on themselves.
If you dont believe me, just look at one of his screed's about the housing crisis: It was Democrats pushing for "more home ownership" (read: poor blacks getting loans they didnt deserve) when the reality is they were victimized by predatory lenders in most cases, and to know that this is yet another who sings for his supper to the GOP's tune
No, I have not read this specific book, but I have read (can't remember where) a dialog on Sowell's philosophical positions that was academic, concise and thoughtful. I also noted his attendance at the University of Chicago, birth place of the Straussian view and the eventual birth of Neoconservatism, which I have wondered if it had any influence on his views. He seems to have some similar perspectives on Liberalism as Strauss. Who knows, but if anyone does, I would be most interested.

Their projection is indeed alarming, but they have cast the blame on others for so long that they even believe it themselves.
Thats what makes ideologues so dangerous
