I have no grand idea for people in the inner city who have it really bad. The only thing I can think of is to educate them & to also get the parents involved. What are conservatives doing for the inner city?

With a few honorable exceptions like the late Jack Kemp, most conservatives have no interest in ghetto neighborhoods wherever they are.

Urban enterprise zones were started by Jack Kemp. School vouchers would provide competition and raise education standards and are overwhelmingly supported in the inner city. Where they work they are pulled out from under the people. See Washington DC.

Actually, I've always been against that plan, even before Obama. I think that instead of turning away & ignoring the public school system, we should help it. How naive of me.

Conservatives simply don't view people as as groups. Identity politics is a Dem thing. Conservatives believe low taxes, limited government and competition help everyone.

Wouldn't that be "looking at people as groups"?

Hoiw does competition hurt public schools? It would make them better.

Kemp really did genuinely concern himself with improving conditions for the poor and minorities. Unfortunately, George H.W. Bush dismissed nearly all of his ideas.

And school vouchers are an excellent idea in places with dysfunctional school systems.

I responded to your last post before you edited it: why would you not consider ghetto/slum suburbs "inner city" if you'd consider outer city slum/ghetto areas to be "inner city"?

Sure, competition is a great thing. Except when an entire public school system is left behind, like a relic. Think of it this way: people who work for the city have to live in the city, they need to keep their kids in the city. Following?
