Ignore what? The fact that poison gas isn't a WMD, or that Bush is that much of a puppet he has to abide by what a small number of members of the opposing party says about WMD's? Or are you saying he was forced into saying that Iraq has WMD's and he had no power whatsoever to not invade Iraq on the WMD notion?
Are you going to keep bringing up that falsehood? Iraq had WMD's. Saddam used them to kill 30,000 Kurds. Do you dispute that? Of course you do.
I doubt it. It was in all the papers, and Reagan did exactly nothing about it. He wanted Iraq as a major customer for US agricultural exports, as a regional ally against Iran, and as a potential wedge in influencing parties on Israel/Palestine issues. You could maybe at least understand the gassing while the Iran-Iraq War was still ongoing. The Kurds were after all fighting with Iran. But the last series of attacks came after the war had ended. It was still weeks before any condemnation came, and then it came not from the White House, but the Department of State.
Why? It's all outdated guesswork and speculation, many times coming before the four days of air strikes on even kind of suspected Iraqi weapons sites in December 1998. There were no WMD in 2002, and Bush knew there were none. He had hoped the CIA would provide him some sort of functional cover. When they didn't, he started to make stuff up. Yellow cake, aluminum tubes, Curveball, the Office of Special Programs. All fake. The UN had Hans Blix on the ground going wherever he wanted. No WMD here. No WMD there. Bush had to invade before Blix could conclusively prove it was never necessary to begin with. Sometimes you have to fight with the army you've got. Like when Hans Blix is forcing your hand.

Garfolo calling tea party protesters "racist tea bagging rednecks"
Calling a man who murdered 60,000 babies a "hero"

But the used WMD's weren't the reason we went to war. Nor was the yellowcake that was documented and of limited use.
I think Bush believed that Saddam had a stockpile of WMD's and shared his belief with the American people as justification for the war. But I also believe that Bush began his Presidency with a mindset that Saddam Hussein was America's biggest enemy, and that his father's biggest failure wasn't toppling Saddam during the First Gulf War. That mindset didn't just color Bush's interpretation of the intelligence our agencies were gathering, it also affected the focus of the agencies. Bush was briefed about Al Qaeda, but since he'd never heard of them before, but was familiar with Saddam Hussein, he didn't properly evaluate the information on Al Qaeda. And because the President wasn't interested in Al Qaeda, the CIA and FBI and other agencies focused their efforts where the President wanted those efforts focused, on Iraq. Even after the attack, the President jumped to the conclusion that there were ties between Al Qaeda and Iraq, and even voiced his belief in a connection. Intelligence gathering that is target-oriented is always opening itself to being attacked sideways. If you are always sifting through the sand looking only for gold, you run the risk of missing the diamonds that are there as well.

Yes, Bill Clinton and the UN thought there was a strong possibility that Saddam had WMD's, which is why the UN inspectors were present in Iraq. The UN inspectors, however, increasingly were coming to the conclusion that those WMD's were not present, and said as much quite vocally and repeatedly before Bush invaded. Bush ignored them, because of the reasons I outlined in my post.
