Looks like the Dems responded most to this poll so far. Idiotic poll.

Close, but I'd go back to the 1980's when Jerry Falwell got political with his "moral majority" crap on behalf of the GOP, and "family values" et al. The "moral majority" is neither, and is in fact morally bankrupt.

Newtie sealed the deal in 1994 and since then extreme GOP wingnuts have gone after gays with the same zeal of Hitler's SS rounding up the Jews during WW-II, best example being "Rev" Fred Phelps. Gay issues are the primary fear-based moneymaker for most of the so-called "family" groups hiding behind their bibles. Bush pandered greatly to these loons, but they ended up used and abused by Rove, Bush, et al. Their influence is waning greatly. It's about time their sham was over.

Up until the late 1980's, it seems we were all able to get along, witness the amicable bantering between Reagan and Tip O'Neill, who managed to get a lot done without the horrors we've had dumped on since the GOP wingnuts went after Clinton with such a snarling vengeance. The extreme right needs to be muzzled and kept in a cage, they are fascists who will destroy our nation if left to their desires for utter rigid control of all people and thought.

Be not fooled by their flag waving and bible quoting, or as Sinclair Lewis once said: "When fascism comes to America, it will come wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross." Don't take his words lightly.

As someone who does not vote Republican (though I do not consider myself "liberal", I fully support your effort and hope such a Republican Party could rise again.

I think it's critical to have a voice of minimal government in the mix. I don't think it's critical to have two parties working to impose government in all of our personal lives.

When fascism comes to America it will wrap itself in a burning US flag, denigrate the history that made the US a superpower, be intolerant of any criticism, and dictate our economy and what people can earn from on high. Just like our current fascist Affirmative Action President.

The Moral Majority of which you speak, ceased to exist four years after it began. The same is also true with the Christian Coalition. Both were completely ineffectual and neither had any significant impact on the Republican Party, accounting for less than 10% of the GOP vote. So much for your imagined "boogey man."

Completely false on all accounts. The Christian coalition actually swung elections. And, unless someone need do the math, a 10% difference (or even 5%) would have kept W. out of the White House.

Likewise, the phrase you're looking for is that Fascism will arrived wrapped in the American flag".

We saw this begin to happen under the Bush administration, but thankfully have regained our country's righteous path. God bless America.

You know, it would be funny if it weren't so sad that there are so many people on this thread who cannot and willnot see thier 'side' involvement in the continuation of divisive politics.
What are the issues that drives the Republicans? Everybody's sex life? Placing religious symbols in public places? Teaching creationism in public schools? Not things such as healthcare and poverty.

Which election(s) did the Christian Coalition influence? The mainstream media put Clinton into office in 1992, and by 1996 the Christan Coalition ceased to exist thanks to an IRS law suit. Are you claiming that the Christian Coalition put Clinton into the White House? The Christian Coalition was long gone before the 2000 election.

If I was looking for a phrase, I certainly wouldn't be asking someone whose memory is as faulty as yours.

As far as fascism is concerned, Germany had their socialist fascist to contend with in the 1930s, and now the US has its socialist fascist to contend with in 2009. For all those liberal freaks who were afraid of a right-wing dictator, you managed to elect yourselves a left-wing dictator. What a bunch of morons.

Oh. I thought we could have an intelligent conversation. I guess you're just a partisan hack.

Anyway, you're reducing the "Christian Coalition" to some formal organization. It's a well known fact that conservative Christians chose to ignore all the liberal teachings of Christ and align with the Republicans in 2000 and 2004, thus swinging the "election" of George W. Bush.

It's a fact, and no, Obama is not a dictator. Simply someone free science and judiciary from the grasp of partisan politics while fixing a ship that almost sank under the previous administration.

Someday, we'll need to balance out again.

The Christian Coalition not only didn't cease to exist, but CONTINUES TO EXIST TODAY!

Seriously, you can't actually believe everything you write about...it's amazing that you could actually make claims like that without actually looking them up in any way.
