Their apologizing for what a different and long past society did to African Americans? I have to say my grandparents came to the U.S. here long after slavery. What do I have to apologize for? Nothing, so what’s up with the senate? The generation that should have made amends is long dead. In fact my grand parents had to put up with a huge load of racism when they came over. You don’t see me screaming for an apology.

Slavery had gone on for hundreds and perhaps thousands of years. The United States of America abolished slavery within 88 years of its existence. The United States of America made it illegal to discriminate on the basis of race. The United States of America put programs into place to help Black folks get ahead guranteeing not just equal opportunity but equal outcomes. But the folks who did all this also have to apologize for something they did not do?

Most Black folks have taken advantage of what this country has to offer. Some have not and maybe cannot. Capitalism can be very tough on some people. I would gladly join in this apology if I thought it would help with that segment of the Black community that can't seem to make it in this capitalist society. But I'm afraid it will be of no help at all.

Exactly..and what have they accomplished this past year for our tax dollars. Again I say not a damn thing. They deferred back to a legislation that should have been signed decades ago...OK mission accomplished. Now what, what are they going to do for OUR tax dollars.

I absolutely agree! We, as a nation, should do more to handle the discriminatory practices and behaviors that exist in our contemporary society. As long as LGBT Americans and others that are still discriminated against on a Federal Level are treated as FULL AND EQUAL citizens, these "apologies" are both meaningless and hypocritical.

We have apologized millions of times.

It's called welfare and affirmative action. Unfortunately the race baiters in DC will never be happy.

Right now if you are a White male, you have the fewest rights of any demographic, and we have to apologize? I wasn't alive during those eras, I won't apologize for them, but I think that I am owed an apology because right now in America if you are applying for a job, a grant, a mortgage, college admission, the White male has fewer opportunities than any other demographic.

Aero...I've seen this mentioning of "reparation" mentioned several times this week alone on this board.....There are only a handful of loud mouth simple minded Blacks that believe this country still owes today generation something...The ONLY thing MY country owe to me is a clear and equal path to make my way and a clear and equal path for my children to make their way. Thats it...
