Not that I'm saying that Kissinger would be salivating at the mouth for an "onegov" N.W.O,
BUT..

"Today Americans would be outraged if U.N. troops entered Los Angeles to restore order; tomorrow they will be grateful. This is especially true if they were told there was an outside threat from beyond, whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all peoples of the world will plead with world leaders to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well being granted to them by their world government."
-- Henry Kissinger speaking at Evian, France, May 21, 1992

Who the hell cares what Kissinger says? He's right when he says that Obama is handling the situation well, but what else is he going to say? He has spent his entire life on the wrong side of the political argument. Stating the obvious doesn't mean anything. His opinion is no more relevant than that of Yosemite Sam.

He was never a Chicago councilman. He was an Illinois state senator from Chicago. His job was not to "do" things for his district, it was to pass laws for the state!

I think you have to put it into context as well. Kissenger is smart enough to know - whoever wins the Iranian elections, the mullah's are in charge. He made that clear in the beginning of that particular interview - alternative candidate is not the progressive moderate that people are making him out to be. And, whoever wins, the mullahs call the shots. Iran remains a closed islamic republic run by hardliners. That is what he is talking about.

Supringly, Bill O'Reilly from Fox news supports Obama's non-interferance in the Iranian elections as well. I see it as a short term view.

I disagree with O'Reilly and Kissenger and Obama, and I don't see it as a partisan issue (as apparantly news reports are coming in that some on Obama's staff are also wishing the president would take a harder stand) - My argument, which I added to another post on the subject, is that strong statements at this point couldn't hurt, as whatever we do (say nothing, ignore) the U.S. still gets blamed for interference. The people of Iran are tired of an islamic hard-lined dominated dictatorship. Public protests? People carrying signs IN ENGLISH where 5 years ago they were carrying signs saying "death to america"? This is groundbreaking! These protests in Iran won't solve anything now, one guy is only a little better than the other, but it lays the groundwork for a change that will benifit the U.S., Obama should come on stronger.

But those aren't the same people, lol. Most of the ones carrying "Death to America" signs 5 years ago still are; most of the ones carrying signs in English would've been carrying them 5 years ago if there had been any occasion for doing it.

Besides: can you really not think of any good reason an Iranian might want to carry a "Death to America" sign?
