In an interview with CNN yesterday, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) criticized President Obama’s approach to the turmoil in Iran, saying that he shouldn’t be concerned about being seen as “meddling” in Iran’s affairs. But on Fox News last night, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, noting that he was a McCain supporter, said that he thinks “the president has handled this well”.http://thinkprogress.org/2009/06/18/kissinger-obama-iran/Never (broken link) have been a big fan of Kessinger but thought his comment was interesting.
If Obama goes overboard in supporting the protestors, they could be portrayed as "western backed" and therefore lose their momentum. In any other situation I'd say Obama's words were tepid, but Iran is a different case given the history with the "western backed" prime minister's coup, and the "western backed" shah.

Last quote I remember from Kissenger: "IF IRAN SUCCEEDS in building nuclear weapons, it could touch off an arms race that leads to the end of civilization".
Kissenger is all in support of negotiating with Iran's regime, but he's not afraid of confrontation with them.
