By Andy Barr
The Politico

Following a week of back and forth between CBS late-night comic David Letterman and Sarah Palin over a crude joke he told about the Alaska Republican governor's daughter, the Olive Garden restaurant says it is canceling all of its scheduled ads on Letterman's "Late Show" for the rest of the year.

In an e-mail to a Letterman critic obtained by POLITICO, a spokeswoman for the Italian restaurant chain wrote that "there will be no more Olive Garden ads scheduled for 'The Late Show' with David Letterman in this year's broadcast schedule," citing the host's "inappropriate comments."

And now they're denying that they pulled the ads because of Letterman. They're now saying that the contract simply expired and that they've chosen to not renew it.

Maybe so, maybe not, but any restaurant in this economy would be stupid to choose a side in this non sense.

Olive Garden's food is a poor imitation of good Italian food. They can't afford to take sides over the Palin/Letterman controversy.

Olive Garden has long been a punchline in his monologue. This was payback, and nothing else.

OG is gonna end up looking stupid

I have a feeling that the Olive Garden is popular with the Palin crowd - maybe not overwhelmingly, but like the Outback Steakhouse and other suburban mid-priced chain restaurants, they probably have more of a Republican clientele.

I don't even like Palin, and I'll be sure to stop by a little more often just because Letterman is a bucked tooth twit.

How Karl Rove of you to pigeonhole their customers?

Yet you just said you'd stop by more often.
