Whether or not America, as we know it, survives the next century will depend upon one thing: Will white, Protestants of European decent willingly and peacfully give up power to the new majority? This is something we've never faced before.

The coming new majority will be heavily brown and either Catholic, Muslim, some other religion, non-religious or a combination of them all. The demographics of immigration, along with the declining birth rate of white Protestants, assures that new majority probably within the next generation.

White people of European decent have held uncontested power in this country since the Revolution and have never had their majority challenged. That's about to change and the future of our Constitutional Republic hangs upon the acceptance of that new majority by the present majority.

The Red Sox got their butts beaten by the Braves to day. Just wanted you to know.

Because this country of ours has several different hearts which often finds each other repulsive. Right now the liberal left here in the north east sees most southerners as white racist. There is real division brewing. Maybe not today but it is there.

stillkit,

So, what do you think the end result of America's changing demographics will be? Are you forseeing a peaceful transition of power from one set of ethnic groups to another or something else?

You know what going to break the center away from the rest of the nation? The fact that the industries in the Midwest that once employed hard working people have disappeared and the federal government could care less. How long can people stand being poor for no other reason than the greed found on Wall Street and in Washington D.C.? No one cares about the heart of the U.S.

People will care about the Midwest/Great Plains when it decides to leave the union and become it's own nation and won't share it's food with whats left of the United States because of the United States' way of doing things

I'd like to believe there will be a peaceful transfer of power, but I'm not altogether sure about it.

I'm new in these forums, but I've been a long-time participant on some others, and the level of vitriol and hate directed at the current President exceeds anything I've ever seen before and I'll be 60 tomorrow. Among my peers (older, white males), there is enormous resistance to the idea of having a black man in the White House. Though most of it is hidden behind words such as "liberal" or "socialism," the underlying truth is that they just don't like him, personally, or the idea of his race gaining such power. Of course, that's just my personal observation and I have on empirical evidence to back it up, but far too many people in my circle of acquaintances use the phrase, "That "N" in the White House," on a regular basis.

Additionally, my in-box is flooded with messages about how illegals are "ruining" America, not because they are illegal, but because they are "different" and changing America from what it was in the past. Not to mention the fear Islam stuff which floats around the net and warnings that America will turn out like Europe in that regard.

The bottom line is that two forces are in operation here which may mean the end of this country as it was conceived:

1. The basic belief that what America has been in the past is preferable to what it might become down the road; that our country is not defined by it's Constitutional processes, but by the status quo.

2. A geniune and widespread lack of knowledge about that Constitution and what it embodies. There seem to be an enormous number of people out there who really don't understand how The People are empowered to change this country into anything they want it to be, even if the racial, religious or ethnic majority of The People changes over time.

Taken together, that might be a toxic mix which the Constitution will not survive. I hear an awful lot of loose talk about "changing" the government and, as a moderator on another board, have had to delete threads and warn members about advocating sedition and suggesting the violent overthrow of the elected government. It IS out there on the net and it's frightening how often the justification for such blather is based upon nothing more than an unwillingness to accept the Will of The People. In other words, an unwillingness to allow the Constitution to operate as it's intended. Of course, those who think along such lines don't see it as subverting the Will of The People, but as "saving" America, blissfully ignorant of the fact that if they "save" America by subverting the Will of The People, they would be, in fact, destroying it.

So...I don't know. We'll just have to wait and see.
