they will never legalize pot. barry is a greedy a-hole and if he can't tax the living crap out of something, it will remain illegal. can't really tax something most people would grow in their living rooms.

You can tax the crap out of pot. People can brew beer in their living rooms as well, but not that many people do it. This is because beer, like pot, takes a lot of effort and skill to get right. Additionally, like pot, it is very difficult for one person to produce the different types and styles of beer all by ones self so if you want to have a fair amount diversity in the beer you consume chances are you will buy it at the supermarket/beer store just as would be the case with pot, respectively, if it were legal.

not in my opinion. every single person I know that smokes would be happy to put a seed in a pot and wait a couple months.

Then I would say many of them know nothing about pot and will be in for quite a disappointment when their months of waiting and effort result in a small amount of woody, more than likely improperly cured ditchweed that tastes like crap and has the potency of low quality schwag. Additionally while they are waiting for this to grow they will use store bought stuff and, unless they are really committed, give up just like many homebrewers do after their first bungled try.

if this were true, it wouldn't be illegal. the government doesn't see enough money in it. that's why it's illegal.

That is not why it is illegal. It is illegal because of William Randolph Hearst. He had a vested interest in the wood pulp industry which was threatened by industrial hemp and as such his news papers played on drug fear of the early 20th century to make marijuana illegal.
It was then re-examined in the 60-70s and perceived to be a cause of the rebellious nature of youths and as such was severely restricted under Nixon's law and order policies.
The combination of paper interests, the anti-60s backlash, and religious conservatives that think anything that resembles sin should be illegal is why pot is illegal it has nothing to do with revenue. Revenue if anything is what will make it legal. In California the main strength behind the legalization campaign is the $1 billion dollars pot tax revenue would add to the states badly diminished coffers.
