*Illegal immigrants and their children account for 17 percent of the entire uninsured population in the U.S.
*Also, a greater percentage of households headed by illegal immigrants receive Medicaid – 17 percent – than do all other households – 14 percent.

A simple way of dramatically lowering the number of workers in America who need to be insured would be to simply decrease the illegal alien population through a strategy of attrition through enforcement.

That's about right. It's probably higher but now you can understand why Obama wants to push his healthcare plan through. Illegal aliens could some day become comrades.

First, in order to receive Medicaid, you have to be what is called a "qualified immigrant." Qualified immigrants include the following: 1) lawful permanent residents (green card holders); 2) refugees, asylees, persons granted withholding of deportation/removal, conditional entry (in effect prior to April 1, 1980), or paroled into the United States for at least one year; 3) Cuban/Haitian entrants; 4) battered spouses and children with a pending or approved a) self-petition for an immigrant visa, or b) immigrant visa filed for a spouse or child by a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident, or c) applicant for cancellation of removal/suspension of deportation, whose need for benefits has a substantial connection to the battery or cruelty. A parent/child of a battered child/spouse are also "qualified." Victims of trafficking are not included in the "qualified" definition but they and their derivative beneficiaries are eligible for benefits funded or administered by federal agencies, without regard to their immigration status. Any non-citizen who does not fall under one of those preceding categories would not be eligible for Medicaid.
Eligibility for qualified immigrants also depends on the date the person entered the United States. If the immigrant entered the U.S. prior to August 22, 1996, he or she is eligible for Medicaid.
If the immigrant entered the United States on or after August 22, 1996, then only the following categories of qualified immigrants may receive Medicaid: 1) Refugees, asylees, persons granted withholding of deportation/removal, Cuban/Haitian entrants or Amerasian immigrants; 2) lawful permanent residents who have been in "qualified" immigrant status for 5 years or more; 3 ) veteran, active duty military; spouse, un-remarried surviving spouse, or child (without regard to status in U.S.); 4) children receiving federal foster care; and 5) victims of trafficking.

I'm completely agaist illegal immigration, but...

We do not have the resources to deport millions of people - We do not have the recources to imprission millions of poeple who crossed a border.
But, we are going broke on Social Security. Healthcare is being battered by the uninsured.

Couldn't we just swallow our pride and grant amnesty to help offset some of these deficits? No other option really makes sense.

The illegal gangbanging criminals are a different story. They should be sent back.

WHAT IS INSANITY?
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Congress has passed 7 amnesties for illegal aliens, starting in 1986.

1. Immigration and Reform Control Act (IRCA), 1986: A blanket amnesty for some 2.7 million illegal aliens
2. Section 245(i) Amnesty, 1994: A temporary rolling amnesty for 578,000 illegal aliens
3. Section 245(i) Extension Amnesty, 1997: An extension of the rolling amnesty created in 1994
4. Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act (NACARA) Amnesty, 1997: An amnesty for close to one million illegal aliens from Central America
5. Haitian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act Amnesty (HRIFA), 1998: An amnesty for 125,000 illegal aliens from Haiti

6. Late Amnesty, 2000: An amnesty for some illegal aliens who claim they should have been amnestied under the 1986 IRCA amnesty, an estimated 400,000 illegal aliens
7. LIFE Act Amnesty, 2000: A reinstatement of the rolling Section 245(i) amnesty, an estimated 900,000 illegal aliens

Attrition Through Enforcement Is the True Middle-ground Solution
The open borders crowd constantly tell the American people that there are only two solutions to our nation's illegal alien crisis – give illegal aliens amnesty or round them up and deport them. This is a diversionary tactic to draw public attention away from the most effective and efficient solution – Attrition Through Enforcement.
The principle behind Attrition Through Enforcement is that living illegally in the United States will become more difficult and less satisfying over time when the government – at ALL LEVELS – enforces all of the laws already on the books. It is also imperative that the government with the full cooperation of the private sector, implements certain workplace enforcement measures. The goal is to make it extremely difficult for unauthorized persons to live and work in the United States. There is no need for taxpayers to watch the government spend billions of their dollars to round up and deport illegal aliens; they will buy their own bus or plane tickets back home if they can no longer earn a living here.
We know Attrition Through Enforcement will work because, until recently, it has been shown to work even with little or no enforcement. As it currently stands, almost 200,000 illegal aliens self-deport from the United States every year, but imagine how many more would leave if our government refused to award illegal aliens another amnesty, mandated all employers to verify a person’s eligibility to work here, cracked down on identity fraud, and enabled local police to easily transfer illegal aliens in their custody to the feds.
People Who Left the Ranks of Illegal Aliens in the Most Recent Year of Official Record*
183,000 Self-Deported
152,000 Amnestied (allowed to adjust to legal status within U.S.)
63,000 Removed by Federal Authorities
27,000 Died
456,000 Total
