Much to the chagrin of the elites who complain ad-nauseum about any entitlements for the masses - the country strongly favors a government insurance system to compete with the private insurance companies..

85% said the health care system needed to be fundamentally changed or totally rebuilt.

And Americans are far more confident in Democrat's ability to improve the health care system than the Republicans (no brainer IMHO).

Almost 60% indicated they would be willing to pay higher taxes to ensure that everyone has health insurance...

Polling data like this is going to make it a lot easier for Obama and the Democrats to move us towards UHC - starting with a system of public/private health care components to begin with - and probably several years down the road making bolder and more comprehensive change.

Big deal.

Easy for folks to respond to a phone call with a few questions. Let's see if the support is still there when the details and requirements of a plan are disclosed and critically evaluated.

This story means very little, and doesn't indicate the outcome of a national health plan proposal.

It indicates support for proposals that are working their way through Congress right now - hate to burst your bubble.

Great post. You can tweak a poll to get the results you want. I've heard many polls showing a strong weakening in support for such a plan.

Yeah, that would be ...according to the latest New York Times/CBS News/Letterman/Dan Rather poll. Remember Jayson Blair? Dan Rather?

And ...the survey also revealed considerable unease about the impact of heightened government involvement.

And a whopping ...77 percent said they were very or somewhat satisfied with the quality of their own care.

The Kennedy/Dodd plans are falling through the floor. Lieberman came out against it already and many other senators (Landrieu, Lincoln, Pryor, Bayh, etc) are lukewarm on it. Keep in mind that, although the leadership of the (D) party is Socialist, it still has many elected officials that are not. Fortunately, people like Schumer do not represent most Americans. As an NY resident, you should be able to appreciate the destruction caused by liberal policies.

I would love to read the article but last time I opened a link from the New York Times I got a nasty virus on my computer that the best of nerds could not get rid of. Had to get a new computer and I am not screwing this one up. Been trying to find another source on this subject but no luck. So I guess I will just have to believe them.

Here they go again...

Don't like something - label it 'socialist' - then people will HAVE to reject it - NOT!

The Kennedy proposal will not be chosen - IMHO - and yes, there is much debate to occur before a final plan is settled upon...

But 85% of the country realizes the current system is broken and insists upon health coverage for all...
