Good, freedom isn't free. This will do a great deal to involve the young in their country, and to actually contribute instead of assuming they are entitled to freedom without contributing.

Everyone needs to understand that they have some skin in this game!

I think it's excellent. I remember Obama speaking of something like this..

Nothing is free.. freedom isn't free. Getting assistance from the government isn't free. Government helps you with your college, then you help the country with your service. It's also a great way to get the youth of this country involved.

I think it's excellent!

You are rather poorly informed. Did you get it from Limbaugh?

Probably....

Or are you deliberatly trying to misinform people?

The name of HR 1388 is “Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act"

Term 'invogorate' means 'to inspire', although I am sure Rush Limbaugh would translate it as "mandatory service", or "forced labor".

When you hear stuff from Limbaugh, or FOX, you might want to double check the information, because otherwise you might end up looking like a fool. Did you hear about FOX manipulating the Biden statement? They actually got caught after they did it and had to admit it.

Freedom isn't free means that I must keep an eye on the gubmint to make sure they allow me to remain free. It doesn't imply universal military or civilian service. That's what Hitler wanted to bring back to Germany in the 30's.

Sieg Heil!

I don't have time to read it thoroughly, could someone summarize? I am all for mandatory civilian service but the work MUST equal the pay... picking up trash every saturday hardly constitutes "work"... Not only that, I would cap it and allow an increase of 1-2% every year... the average undergrad school is 6k/year and 4 years... to me, the students MUST contribute 6k worth of work each year to get the credit and the volunteer work is based on work pay parameters (picking up trash every saturday is equal to $1/hour of service credit)... for those who want to go to more expensive school, they can either chase after higher service credits or pay the extra amount themselves... the end... but knowing how the Presidents work, I will end up paying 8 years of undergraduate work for someone who picks up trash once a month for a couple of hours... making that person an underworked overpaid garbage collector...

Here's an idea...you were bitching about health insurance. Why not use this to pay for health insurance for people that cant pay for themselves? (same for welfare, students, etc)

I don't want a handout, therefore I am not required to do any work!
