the majority on here say they would never vote for it, but opinion polls usually show a vast majority of americans want it
Because the vast majority of Americans think they will get it for free.
Most Americans don't intensely follow politics or economics. They blindly listen to campaign promises and think someone just can wave a wand and poof, they get health care without any consequences to the tax system or anything else.

If you look at polls of what concerns Americans most it is the deficit. Americans also know UHC would blow the budget. So in theory people may be for it but when they see it will cost $1 trillion to insure only 16 million people reality is sobering. And the trillion is only an estimate, we all know that the real final number will be double or triple that.

This is an utter falsehood. Anyone with at least half a brain knows otherwise.

I disagree. Many people watched "sicko" and see the perceived utopia of UHC in other countries and imagine something similar here. In an almost perverse irony, they perceive it could actually be run better than UHC in other countries, as they've falsely assumed that everything run elsewhere is run better in America when copied. Of course, the only reason the adage "it's done better in America" was ever true was because we had immigrants flock here due to the fact that we were the antithesis of European social democracies and had more opportunity for advancement.
I thought the last comment posted on that YT video rang true to me:
"socialism would only work if a few dozen people were stranded on an island. each person would work and share, benefitting all.
the problem with socialism in america is the untold millions (including illegals) who only exist to take handouts without contributing. not only do they not contribute, they cause problems.
if half the people on the island didn't work, benefitted from everyone else's work, and only committed crimes, the system would break down.
whats the difference between that and the people at Palin rallies saying Obama is a A-rab and a terrorist.
