"Obama leaves door open to tax on health benefits- AP
President Barack Obama left the door open to a new tax on health care benefits Wednesday, and officials said top lawmakers and the White House were seeking $150 billion in concessions from the nation's hospitals as they sought support for legislation struggling to emerge in Congress." As reported by Yahoo finance.

The first tax of many- Gee if I am thinking correctly there are quite a few people who make less than 250K that will be hit with this tax. Also, wasn't Obama critical of McCain for talking about this on the campaign trail.

Remeber " Change you can believe in" yeah right in your wallet

85% of Americans said that they wouldn't mind higher taxes if UHC can be achieved.

And which Democratic Pollster told you this?? Recently in California a new tax increase was overwhelmingly rejected by the voters. Even in California they are tired of being taxed. Obama never met a tax increase proposal that he did not like..There are 46 million people uninsured- the new Healthcare proposal would cost 3 trillion dollars and would only end up insuring 1/3 of those people. Stop relying on government- you can do it! Be a free thinker not a government robot.

I think that 85% you are talking about does not include actual taxpayers.

I cannot see that many people supporting a tax hike when the federal goverment cannot even balance their own checkbook.

The Clinton administration did a much better job at balancing the Checkbook than the Republicans did.

people would be going out and doing it.. problem is.. many jobs do not provide healthcare, or a wage sufficient to put a roof over heads and clothes on backs let alone to pay for their own healthcare...
how do you propose we bridge this gap?
do you say it is ok to tell a certain segment of the population that they cannot have access to medical care because they can't afford it?? even if being poor is just a segment of that person's life time on their way to bettering their life.. is it ok to say that while you're poor that is just the breaks of being in that situation???
Many people lose jobs and are laid off.. and take whatever work they can to put food on the table.. and many times it is jobs that don't provide healthcare insurance...what do you say to these people???
linking healthcare to your employer is the biggest mistake we ever made as a country.. It should have been done like social security where everyone pays into a fund for themselves that is NOT contingent upon the pulling of strings by an employer....it's too late for that...
you can't have your cake and eat it too.. if you're going to not do something about healthcare.. then you better do something about wages!

you have two kids, work at walmart durring the day and clean offices at night.. and you got cancer... hang in there huh? you got a lot of nerve...

But 50% of americans pay no federal income tax. I think if theyt are going to tqax it by saying all icome must be taxed then all things derived form any source even the federal governamnt must be taxed as income./ That would mean alot more people apying income tax. I thni if american had to pay a equal share for thier insurnce that would be fair.CXetainly a higher cost than medicare payers pay reguardless of income.
