I reluctantly remain a Republican, but continue to grow more and more frustrated with the sh*t the RR tries to pull.

I knew the Texas state Republican Party platform was socially conservative. I'd read parts of it and read a lot about it, but didn't realize exactly how extreme it was and how far they actually took it. I just read it in its entirety and am baffled.

The good news - the TX platform has been lauded as one of the most socially conservative state ones in the country, the national platform is not nearly as bad as this, and most candidates for state offices in TX are nowhere close to this extreme. It still frustrates me immensely.

http://www.texasgop.org/site/DocServer/FINAL_2008_PLATFORM.pdf (broken link)

Some examples:

1) the word "God" is mentioned probably about 100 times, if not more, and they want to dispel the "myth" of separation between church and state

2) they actually want to ban all forms of pornography and want homosexual acts criminalized

3) they want to ban abortion, but they apparently want no exceptions and they also want to ban certain forms of contraceptives (seems so counterproductive....contraceptives PREVENT the need for abortion)

4) they want a state law to force teaching intelligent design in public schools, want a state law banning teaching any sex ed other than abstinence only in public schools (goes back to the abortion thing....comprehensive sex ed can REDUCE abortions among the young) and want to revise rape laws to include consensual sex between teenagers in the same age range, while making the death penalty a punishment option for rape

5) they want to end the state lottery

I don't think most Republicans would support most of those measures, though.

As mentioned in the OP. I'm still incredibly frustrated that they're even in the platform at all, even if the majority may be ignored.

I would say the majority of Republicans are for all those things. If not, they might as well be a Democrat.

Good, I am hoping the Republicans go Neocon ape SH^^! Take Neoconism to the furthest extreme possible. That will all but eliminate the Republicans to a pathetic afterthought.
Then a real party of Principal can arise and truly lead the nation by giving America back to us.

Wow...that's in an official platform? Right now I'm too amazed to be appalled.

For the most part, the RR has already led to the demise of the GOP.

The document quoted by the OP proves the RR part of the GOP, at least in TX, has become clinically delusional / deranged. Some of these people are the sort of possible domestic terrorists the DHS report recently warned us about. They've been fed a constant stream of lies about how christianity is under attack, yadda yadda, and many of these rubes believe it. Truth is, these clowns are the ones attacking us and our constitution, trying to force their doctrines into our government. I could go on and on about these people, but I won't, suffice it to say that any armed belligerent religious zealot is a terrorist, be they a part of Al Queda or a part of some evangelical church -- they are ALL the same, no matter where in the world they operate.

Texas Freedom Network - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That would, at least temporarily, give the Democrats control over virtually everything (it would take years for a new party to be viable). Imagine how difficult it would be to recover from reckless spending at levels several times more than now.

And, on the state level, even if my state's GOP supports this crap, they are doing a GREAT job fiscally. Democratic control of TX would be the worst thing for the state.
