According to the CDC, a record 40% of births were born to unmarried mothers, a number that will continue to rise unless something is done about it. We seem to be so concerned about teenage pregnancies, and we're trying to prevent them, but why aren't we trying to reduce unwed births? The increase in unwed births is an important issue as well. Studies have shown that children who grow up in 2 parent married households are better educated, happier, and healthier. Our rate is similar to those in Scandinavian Europe, Iceland (66%), Sweden (55%) Norway (50%) U.K. (44%) and the Netherlands (40%). At the rate we've been increasing our unwed births, we'll be seeing 50% of babies born out of wedlock in only a few years.
We need to do something about this! We've reduced the teenage pregnancy rate by discouraging it, although it's risen in the past few years though, and I'm sure we could do the same with out-of-wedlock birth rate.

They are.............. offering abortion is the lefts answer to this!
Exactly. Abortion is the solution to everything in their eyes.
My solution is making contraceptives more widely available and making it a clear public policy to promote having children only within marriage. No, it shouldn't be forced, but it should be encouraged.
It would require something be done about the welfare system where single women including teenage girls are rewarded for giving birth out of wedlock.
I agree.
I know of way too many girls who felt state assistance is a good way to live their lives.
I would recommend more access to affordable birth control (pills, IUDs, etc) and condoms. I would rather my tax dollars go towards helping a young girl get on birth control pills or getting an IUD implanted than her having a baby and thinking WIC and food stamps are the way to go.
Abortion should be an option but it shouldn't be the first thing recommended.

Oh I support handing out free contraceptives on high school campuses and college campuses and also making them available to adults at no charge at certain places.
I also support very clear limits on state assistance - but that's a different subject entirely.
