Is looking to and expecting the government to solve our problems a good idea?

I'm not attempting to start a flame war. Some people look to the government to provide answers, some look away from the government to get answers. Which way do you look?

I've never met anyone who believes that the government should solve all problems, no one, ever!

No. I look to my own critical thinking skills and belief systems.

Furthermore, I'm good and sick and tired of being nagged into behaving the way a particular group feels the way I should behave - and I find it particularly insulting to be told it's going to save me money, make me live 20 years more than I was designed to live, and that whomever is telling me what I should do knows what's best for me. I had a mother for that. Now I'm all grown up thanks anyway.

Government can only give you what it takes away from someone else. Right now it looks like we're taking from our children and grandchildren.

Some of the dirtiest scum on the face of the planet inhabit the halls of our congress and we are to look to them for answers? Pure dirt.

I did not vote, Chris. I'm toying around in my head with all of the types of problems.

I think, in many situations, tht the public believes that something, like a program, is in existence when it is not. So, it will often fall to the government to put whatever it is in place.

I'm hard pressed to think of anything the government has done right.
But the list of taxpayer screw-overs is growing daily. You would have to be insane to belive they can fix the problems. I would also like to note that the institution (flawed as it is) is not the real problem, but the people at the helm are. We need a revolution.

The government can't solved all of our problems. But if they were more efficient and honest, they could solve some of our problems without increasing taxes. We should dissolve or reduce programs/agencies that have layers of bureaucracy and waste.

I am going to guess that most programs and agencies can be much more efficient. I would eliminate the Departments of Education, Homeland Security, DEA etc. I would also shrink the insane military budget.

Well, if you have to guess then you don't have much to work with.
