You really need to separate the wackos trying to capitalize on climate change and the sound science suggesting there is real concern that has to be addressed.

Bluefly...

Yeah just like back in the 70's the same so called "experts", "scientists" and "media" predicted we would enter another ice age by the year 2000. That prediction turned out to be prophetic!!!

Like back in the 70's when ...

Uh huh, just like when tobacco industry scientists insisted that there was not a link between cancer and smoking. I totally get where you are coming from tonyandclaire, those darn experts just don't know a thing ...

"The same" ??????

And what makes you think we're not ENTERING/Beginning/at the start of an ice age?

See, if someone said ""we would enter another ice age by the year 2000"
that didn't mean that on January 1st, 2000 the whole world would instantly freeze....can you understand that? "Ages" take...well,...ages to develop....as in 100's and thousands of years.

What Pelosi or Clinton have to do with it....????

Dragging this tired old argument out from the conservative bag of goodies again? I challenge you to ask yourself why you feel compelled to fight on this issue. Is it because you have serious doubts about the 97% of climatologists who agree that humans are impacting the climate, or is it because admitting to climate change would mean that your free-market ideology doesn't work because humans would be proven to be incapable of being unregulated without destroying the planet?

The hallmark of climate change is not a consistent warming but expanding extremes between cold and warm. Perhaps with the science they had at the time, all they could see was the colder trends.

We have decades more science today and, frankly, I prefer the Marine's motto of taking action when you're 70% sure because waiting for 100% might be too late.

Anyway, we all know on a local level pollution is bad. We see the negative effects in asthma rates and toxins in water and all the rest. Only a primitive society depends upon oil and carbon. We can use our ingenuity to create the technologies and lifestyles that end pollution, but people like you seem to be against progress.

The oil industry is doing precisely what the tobacco industry did when science began realizing the deathly impacts of smoking. They created enough doubt in the public discourse to buy time and maximize profits until they were finally swept under by overwhelming evidence.

I'm not saying there isn't legitimate debate about how much impact humans are having, but we need to stop polluting no matter what and all we have to go off of is the best science we can muster.

97% of climatologists who agree that humans are impacting the climate
one...It is not known what percentage of climate experts do not believe in Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW). Certainly, the pro-AGW crowd would like you to believe that vitually all experts agree (safety in numbers), and that AGW is fact.....but the truth of the matter is that not all experts agree...Keep in mind that there are experts out there who do not want to shake the boat or risk their jobs by going public with their disagreement. The AGW alarmists have done a good job of undermining open discussion of the topic with their mass-media campaigns and intimidation...Great example; Ellen Goodman of the Boston Globe "Global Warming Deniers Are Now on a Par with Holocaust Deniers"...

two...Two German environmental scientists, Dennis Bray and Hans von Storch conducted a survey. Bray is a research scientist at the GKSS Institute of Coastal Research in Geesthacht, Germany. Von Storch is a climatology professor at the University of Hamburg and director of the Institute of Coastal Research. More than 530 climate scientists from 27 different countries provided numerical answers. All responses were anonymous.

“do you agree or disagree that climate change is mostly
the result of anthropogenic (man made) causes?” Slightly more than half (55.8 percent) of climate scientists surveyed agreed, 14.2 percent were unsure, and 30 percent disagreed.

three..It is impossible to know the percentage because the number of skeptical climatologists is growing all the time. Even the Washington Post has reported on this.

Some of the best climatologists are skeptical, including Roger Pielke (an ISI most cited researcher) and Richard Lindzen (famous researcher from MIT), Roy Spencer, John Christy, Reid Bryson and many others.

A series of peer-reviewed studies were published in 2007 showing that AGW will not be catastrophic. Roy Spencer and his team published on a negative feedback over the tropics, which they identified as the "Infrared Iris Effect" hypothesized by Lindzen. Stephen Schwartz from Brookhaven National Lab published a new estimate of climate sensitivity to a doubling of atmospheric CO2 and found it to be one-third of the IPCC estimate. Petr Chylek of Los Alamos National Lab published a study on the cooling impact of aerosols and found them to be much less than previously thought, which also confirms that CO2 does not cause as much warming as previously thought.

If you wish to know more about skeptical climatologists, a number of them are mentioned in a wikipedia article. The list is not comprehensive, but has at least one quote on why they are skeptical.

List of scientists opposing the mainstream scientific assessment of global warming - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Finally regarding your statement "or is it because admitting to climate change would mean that your free-market ideology doesn't work because humans would be proven to be incapable of being unregulated without destroying the planet?"

Now your showing your true colors..Spoken like a "Marxist Elitist"...and thats what Global Warming is all about...The elimination of individual freedoms...thanks Bluefly for letting out the real truth...

oh... if your interested...if you really wish to see some of the filthiest, most polluted areas on this planet... visit some of these nations that are not run by a free-market ideology...trust me...you might be in for a big surprise...

Polling data says that 97% of climatologists agree that humans at least have some impact on climate.

As for your little rant about Marxist elite (huh?!?), my only point was that the reason conservatives fight climate change is because it would prove their ideology doesn't work.

Likewise, our economy collapsed in large part because the markets were too unregulated. We are too primitive a race to be left unregulated until we evolve to understand that what harms one harms all.
