Well...we DO have military memorials to honor 'our heros' , so, there are some objective standards arent there ? Im not against people having their own subjective personal heros ... but id like to see more 'ordinary behind -the-scenes' type of people who werent in the limelight , get heroic recognition based on character.

Was child pornography found in his home? I remember a book was found there. But, is that what you are referring to child pornography? I mention this because possession of child pornography is a crime. And, MJ was not charged with that.

Also, FormerCaliforniaGirl, it is apparent that MJ has had a very significant impact on your life. I mean, you have been on virtually every thread posted about him. Good grief
On the contrary, he had absolutely no impact on my life whatsoever. I never liked his music, and I always thought he was pretty much a freak show.

The truth is, I get bored at work and I log onto this site to pass the time. I find these Michael Jackson threads to be ridiculous, and being an opinionated and outspoken person, I can't help but post in them.

Is THAT okay with you?

Should Micheal Jackson be considered 'a hero' ?
I see Michael more as a victim, a tragic figure. I think many do.
And that's being generous, and is a testament to his enormous personal appeal, his remarkable talent for making people care about him, since few other rich men twice arrested for child sexual assault are likely to garner much public sympathy.

Reply: Since we are critiquing here... while MJ fans would consider his on-stage antics a form of 'demonstrated art' accompanying his music ... I found it very distasteful / a lack of character / and poor role modeling....when he frequently grabbed or rubbed his crotch and pelvic-thrusted his genitals forward to the delight of the crowd. If an ordinary person did that on the sidewalk of a town, hed get arrested for indecent behavior ; but not our iconic Celebrity .

MJ is a musical genius and an incredible entertainer. However, the rest of his life was weird and creepy. I don't think it is unusual for someone with this magnitude of artistic ability to be at odds in separating reality from fantasy....but I also don't think it is an excuse for any adult to take advantage of minor children who idolize them.

But at the end of the day, if only for the sake of his own children, it is better for history to remember him in a positive light. NOT as a hero.....but as the gifted human being he was.

If the question is posited as a response to all the media hoopla I can understand the confusion surrounding his death. While alive, Jackson was last in the news for the claims stemming from child abuse charges. That we in America want our stars walking around and not in the heavens never ceases to amaze me, the man was pushing for freak status, hero, You gotta be kiddin.

He was a very good entertainer. Nothing more, nothing less. That's how I'll remember him. I don't consider him a hero any more than I do most pro athletes, other singers, or movie stars.

Depends on what you consider a 'hero'. If you mean someone who saves lives and helps people avert disaster, then...no, he's not.

But hero is a subjective term. Some people think it means someone who revolutionised something. Others see a kind-hearted person as a hero.

I think he's a hero of the artistic sort. He was really a great musician and talented choreographer, and he overcame many obstacles, and in the last years of his life, dealt with a horrible reputation as a child molestor. Tragic, really.

What Michael Jackson in NOT:
  • A hero
  • A legend
  • In touch with reality
  • A member of a normal family
What Michael Jackon IS (before his death of course):
  • A great entertainer (well, not to me but clearly to millions of others)
  • A child molester
  • A person with hundreds of millions of dollars of debt
  • Someone with millions and millions of mentally disturbed fans
  • Someone with a dad who promoted his new record company within a few days of his son's death
  • Mentally unstable
  • Someone smart enough to leave his children in the custody of Diana Ross (I've recently amended my will to say the same)
