Going by his present direction, I'll say no chance.
One thing is for certain, unlike the 2008 election he will actually have a record to be judged on.
Many voters were spellbound by the mystery that was Obamas prior career and imprinted ideals he didn't actually posses into the void.
As of right this moment, the GOP doesn't really seem to be in a position to challenge him. The party has no clear leadership, and their favourability is way down with black and latino voters, who are only going to play a larger and larger impact on the polls as time goes on.
As far as candidates go, I'd say Huckabee could do a good job of running against Obama. He demonstrated great ability to drum-up grass-roots support, and unlike McCain et al he is actually a very shrewd and intelligent campaigner.
Situations like this one really show up the short-comings of the two party system, though. I don't want to vote for Obama because his politics don't match mine, but there really isn't an alternative; any candidate the GOP puts up is going to be even worse.
We're just entering the depression. It will take a while to bottom out, Obama or not.
Consider yourself fortunate to be in TX. I'm in MI with our 14.1% unemployment rate that owes its existence to the UAW and their Democratic connections along with our business unfriendly state taxes that prevent industry from coming back. We've been in dire straits for five years now. We are an excellent example of what happens to a state that rewards people for not working and penalizes those who do.
you forgot about emenem and 50 cent in the dem primary
50 Cent's a registered Republican. Actually the GOP probably should run him for some office, they've had enough success running show biz people before.
But regarding the topic: Maybe. We really don't know. I do think that whatever the result is in 2012 it will be extremely close, on a 2000 type level.
It's way too early to tell. One thing that I'm pretty sure of is that the passion and excitement for Obama won't be there in 2012 like it was last year. Especially if the economy stays the same or get's worse. There wont be the same grass roots level of support and I would expect voter turnout to be lower. Republican turnout might be higher since many conservatives strongly disliked McCain.
Obama had the advantage of not having much of a record to run from in the last election. Next time he will have to answer for his failures and celebrate his successes (if any). At this point he looks like a lightweight to me.
With Michelle Bachmann and Joe the Plunger running against him he doesn't stand a chance.....
It was funny how the avg. Joe like Joe the Plumber snared obama!!! And here the press says obama is smart! Nope, just another over educated anti-American socialist that should be hanged for his violations of the Constitution already.
