I am starting to think that maybe people should have to take a basic test in order to be registered to vote. It seems to me that most people in this country no more about Michael Jackson, the NFL, or Spencer Pratt than they know about issues that have enormous impacts on all of our lives. The test would cover:
Basic Economics
Basic Current Events
Basic U.S. History
Basic World History
Should someone be allowed to vote that can't point to Europe on a map, or can't tell you what supply equals?
If your goal is to drastically reduce the number of people who vote, that will certainly do the trick. Why not just eliminate voting altogether?
This is the same tactic Democrats used to keep blacks from voting in the southern states. Basic literacy tests were created and when a black man showed up to vote, they would hand him a Chinese newspaper and ask them to read it. If they could not read Chinese, they could not vote.
Sounds like your goal is similar to the southern bigots.

good grief
I would just love to have someone decent to vote for!!
And I also want term limits, I think we should scrub the whole lot of them and start over
Yeah, it's illegal. And rightfully so. You sound like you belong in the Civil War era South.
That sounds like a racist statement to me. Are you somehow suggesting that african american's would be disproportionately affected?
I said NOTHING about property ownership or racial requirements. I didn't say require college degrees. I said BASIC info that ANYONE can go to a public library and find in two hours. Did you even READ my posts?
I am going to assume that you oppose this idea because you don't think you would pass a basic test.

Well I guess you should not be allow to vote then since you clearly have never even read the US Constitution.
Folks, ANYONE can go to a PUBLIC library and find out the sort of info I suggested in TWO hours.
The disenfranchise argument is simply intellectually dishonest.
