WASHINGTON - The number of newly laid-off workers in the United States filing initial claims for jobless benefits last week fell to lowest level since early January, largely due to changes in the timing of auto industry layoffs.
Continuing claims, meanwhile, unexpectedly jumped to a record-high. While layoffs are slowing, unemployed workers are having a difficult time finding new jobs. The unemployment rate rose to 9.5 per cent last month and is expected to top 10 per cent by the end of this year.
Still, continuing claims jumped 159,000 to 6.88 million, the highest on records dating from 1967. Analysts had expected 6.71 million continuing claims.
This is obama's baby. I do think Biden said they are now responsible.
He's put this nation in deep debt with his budget and deficit spending.
This is Bush's baby.
It will always be Bush's baby.
Obama is giver of life and all things good.
Nothing is ever President Obama's fault.
It's always the "vultures" on Wall Street. Fox News or the "mess I inherited"
I gotta say, Bush was nothing more than a tax and spend liberal from the day he took office. So if Bush caused the economy to collapse then we better get ready. After Obama is done we are gonna be wishing for a 1933 economy.
The date they officially must stop blaming Bush for anything is 9/11/09. On that date in 2001, a major catastrophe happened, and it was all Bush's fault.
So according to the left, eight months is - at most - how long you have to blame 'the other guy' before you have to take responsibility for whatever situation you may be facing that day.
