Pardon me for doubting the ability of the American people to pass that "judgement". We're too busy, as a whole, rushing home to watch American idol to care.

I'm with you there. Finally, common ground. Those people don't need to vote anyway. It's simply a matter of educating the populace about the issues and the ramifications of the ignorant voting.

It's a "what are you going to do to scratch my back" mentality. Too many folks want government handouts, want the government to be the answer to everything they have screwed up to begin with and/or spent more & more money while the problem only worsens: public education, health care, a bill or law impeding our basic freedoms every time some one doesn't like somthing, is offended, or is emotionally driven by an isolated tragic event involving 8 year old Suzie.

I honestly think it would be suitable to require any registered voter to pass an exam involving about American civics and basic economics. Contrary to popular belief voting is NOT a right guaranteed by the U.S Constitution. All this rhetoric about the apathy: yes, there is some. But right now there are tons of folks who SHOULD stay home and not screw up things more: keep your fat rear on that couch and watch American Idol for pete's sakes.

I want implanted in people's minds what JFK said: Ask not what government can do, but what you can do for your country and government. I want to hear from a politician what he will do to LEAVE ME ALONE, NOT pass bill after bill, stress that bipartisanship isn't lagging but rather is CREATING THE PROBLEM, stick to his convictions, ignore lobbyists, unions, lawyers, and other self-interest groups. I want people to quit falling for the predictable sound bytes, warm and fuzzy sounding solutions we hear every campaign season and understand the federal government is NOT AUTHORIZED to even tackle health care, public education, and the like. I want people to stop pretending it is a 2-party system and think outside the box. I want the brain washed worshippers of the mainstream media to stop assuming I voted for George Bush just because I bash to bits John Kerry. I want the impeachable offense of not enforcing our national borders enforced. I want every illegal immigrant shipped out via the paddy wagon, no ifs, ands, or buts. I want people to wake up and realize government is the problem in the first place with alot of issues such as expensive healthcare. I want people to wake up to the out-of-control spending and stop whining about other's tax breaks and quit kidding themselves that increasing anyone's taxes is going to better their own lives. I want a huge tax revolt to the plethora of blatantly illegal and unconstitutional taxes we pay every which way we turn. I want my social security out of the hands of the corrupt politicians or immediately cease to be yanking it from every one of my hard earned paychecks. I want soccer moms' cries for the government to be bluntly ignored.
Ok, did I ask for too much?

I would like to hear from a politician who cares about real issues. I dont want to hear about wind-surfing, duck-shooting or what is on their iPod. If I have to hear another poll on Chris Matthews about who the public would "most like to have a beer with " I am tuning out.

values? hard to believe there are any left when you see the trash the news media uses to get ratings.

Smile wow

I am not sure if you (leaving florida) will ever get this. The posts i am looking at are ancient. Not even sure how I got here, but I have to say that the two back to back posts of you and the guy before you made my day. The fellow is talking about how the gays are taking over and his name caught my eye. He calls himself god's messenger?? Very scary. Then your post, which I consider normal coming from someone called leaving Florida?? It is just too beautiful. It is for reasons like this that I got out of Florida as quickly as I could. What a great reminder! Oh, about the lord and gays taking over the world. Check out this link. It is a homemade video to the song. You should also look up the lyrics. its stuart by the dead milkmen. It is quick and might be hard to follow without the lyrics. It talks about the homosexuals ruining our soil with gay aliens. Its insane, but whenever I get really sad for humanity I listen to this song and I feel better. It sounds insane, but I think that our friend "god's messenger" shows that there really are people who think like this. Hope you enjoy the song if you recieve this post.

For anything other than flood insurance, risk is handled by each state, meaning, Florida residents pay a lot for hurricane insurance but Minnesota residents, for example, pay nothing. Florida has a much higher risk of hurricanes than any other state, and with all the recent hurricanes, homeowner's insurance has gone through the roof. Insurance companies are not allowed to distribute that risk to any other state, by law. The federal government could allow that by creating something similar to federal flood insurance.
Why the HELL should somebody freezing in Minnesota pay higher rates for their insurance for people who made a CHOICE to live in a RISK PRONE area of the country? They don't get the warm weather and beaches do they? BTW I am opposed to the National Flood program too. If you CHOOSE to live in a floodplain, you should pay for your risk. And if the national insurance companies were to do such a thing, you would see small insurance companies set up shop in "safe states" and only sell insurance in those states at lower rates by leaving the high risk out of the pool. That would cause MORE insurers to leave Florida.
