In my world, food stamps would only be for the very young or very old, and then just for fruits, vegetables, lean meats, whole wheats and milk. That's it.

No. Hey, you don't have to use food stamps. You can actually work your butt off like the rest of us and buy spices, oils, sweetners and all the rest of the goodies. Work = rewards.
If she made over a certain amount of money she wouldn't be eligible for food stamps. Unless it's some kind of under the table job, the earnings are going to be reported.
