Personally, I think his heart will give out before his trial. But I do believe he will be found to have broken several laws, mainly surrounding his assertion that he was not a part of the Executive branch of government or, uh, the Legislative branch either. He was his own branch. And under this assertion, he committed crimes that will eventually come to light.

It looks like he might have used his own "private army" to torture and assassinate people around the world. Is this the program that Panetta put a stop to as soon as he was told about it? Or is there more?

If the issue becomes hot enough Dick Cheney "will suddenly develop" a medical problem. Doctors will advise that he cannot be summoned to any legal examinations. The affair will just fade away.

or pull a Ken Lay move...keel over and cremation before anyone can identify the body. Cheney has long ago plottted his escape route and has enough money to pull it off.

A lot of unsubstantiated theory here. Wonder why Hersh didn't elaborate,...could it be he's "writing a book"?

I particularly liked this passage:
"............. our special operations community that is set up independently. They do not report to anybody, except in the Bush-Cheney days, they reported directly to the Cheney office. They did not report to the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff or to Mr. [Robert] Gates, the secretary of defense. They reported directly to him. ...
Sounds like the Obama administration, which has 33 czars, and wants to add a 34th:
......czars are being granted sweeping new powers and yet none of them have gone through a confirmation process. The term czar means emperor or king. So Obama administration has already created 33 kings in the federal government. They don’t have to report to Congress or a Cabinet Secretary, but yet they have all this power.

Where's the squealing about these power-grabbers? Let's have a congressional investigation about Obama's czars....
