BB was probably silently upset with Alford for calling her mam.
One mam from a general elicted a correction but at least four mams from Alford went un-challenged.
BB needs to attend a good diversity course focusing on race, gender and generals.
She is probably one of these middle-aged or older women, afraid of aging, and "ma'am" just signifies this. So is an insult to her. She is not a very aware person it seems, so takes it out on the person just trying to pay respect. Very petty, very self-absorbing.
Before Barbara Boxer moved to California she lived near Brooklyn NY and her family had a business there as well. Everyone who worked with them said they were always condescending towards black people. So this does not surprise me at the least.
Boxer will patronize any group she personally loathes to retain her power and control!
Alford was confronted with opposition so, rather than debating the point, he resorted to attacks and name calling. He either does not have the facts to make his point or he does not have the intelligence to debate the issue or he is just flat out wrong. In any event, he was ill equiped to continue the debate so he attacked the opposition. How often do you see that? Answer - all the time.

I don't know if you got the rep points (I tried) but I can't give you enough of them. We've had our differences but I have to give you your props for this post.
I might add that Alford's representation of the African American business community is dubious at best, since he and his wife are the only listed officers of the organization. There are lots of black/African American chambers of commerce and calling yourself national don't make it so.

From a personal standpoint I have had a positive experience with several contractors from this organization while I was doing Hydrology work for the California Aqueduct. Around the Fresno, CA area there is a very successful Black Construction Contractor who is very actively participating in this organization.
Not that I agree with the organizations overall philosophy for instance maxing out on affirmative action bids and so on. But this organization IMHO really does help its membership.
