After a thought provoking discussion with Synopsis, I started thinking about the way partisanship is busting this country apart.I am wondering if we have common ground, but the R or the D behind someone's name keeps us from seeing that and just how centrist IS America really?

Are most of us a bit alike on our views, but let traditional party "lines" separate us?....What if a NEW party came out with hardcore, unbendable lines drawn with NO flip flopping or waffling.Let's call this new party the America First Party and let's say the politicians were self policing...you get elected on the America First Party ticket, you do what you promised you would do or be kicked out of the party and all support from them would be withdrawn.

Let's lay some talking points out for this party and then see if you would vote for their candidate.

Taxes: The AFP is for a fair and equitable flat tax rate.Taxes would be one flat rate for Business and another flat rate for individuals with there being less taxes for businesses to help with expansions, new employees etc etc etc.

With NO loopholes available ALL would pay their fair share of taxes and the HUGE savings of being able to greatly reduce or nearly abolish the IRS would help too.

Illegal Immigration: The AFP is for strict border enforcement and for strict enforcement of CURRENT laws prohibiting the use of illegal Aliens by employers.AFP does not advocate illegal REFORM,but instead illegal REMOVAL from the United States.

The AFP is for fining employers who use illegals the MAXIMUM fines already on the books and the fine monies used to finance ICE and Border Patrol ONLY which would ease budget constraints and also increase the working capital for operations AND moral of these depts.

The AFP is against ANY type of illegal amnesty program.

Gov't Spending: The AFP does not believe in the layering of federal and state offices where 25 fed/state employees all read the same file before action is taken or in more cases than not, inaction is taken.AFP is for a total accounting of ALL money spent by every agency and redundancy is eliminated from that agency without sacrificing public services.

In some cases the AFP advocates the total elimination of certain subsidies that are not helping anyone but the big players and reforming others to do what they were originally proposed to do.This goes for welfare subsidies, farm subsidies, business subsidies, municipal subsidies etc etc etc.

AFP supports a transparent, open bidding system on ALL contracts involving ANY federal and state monies. If the letter of the law is followed, then Afirmative Action is no longer needed and all play on a level playing field.AFP supports major prison time for any violation of bid policies or bribery involved in bidding.

Gun Owners Rights: The AFP fully supports the rights of U.S. citizens to own guns and supports concealed carry laws that allow anyone not convicted of a felony to carry a gun for defense of their person/property.AFP fully supports No Retreat laws on the state level.

AFP supports a minimum mandatory prison sentence for anyone using a weapon in the commision of a crime.AFP also supports long prison terms for felons caught in possession a gun.

AFP supports the death penalty for capital offenses.

AFP FULLY supports the rights of victims.

Labor Issues: The AFP supports workers rights to organize and to collective bargaining, but also supports the Right to Work.

Campaign Finance and Lobbying: AFP stands firm against accepting PAC money and is for major reform in lobbying.

Healthcare Reform: AFP is for health care for all U.S. citizens who can not afford it.With millions of illegals out of the country AFP feels the individual states would then be in a better position to help their own citizens.

Education: AFP supports funding for public education, but also is in favor of parents rights to homeschool.

AFP supports continuing education programs with grants and student loans made available to those who qualify.

Foreign Trade Policy: AFP is in favor of repealing NAFTA and placing tarriffs on American owned companies(51% or more U.S. ownership)that have moved overseas or across the border taking American jobs with them and those tarriffs would equal what the product would cost to be made here.AFP supports using part of the tarriff money to subsidize displaced worker's retraining and upgrading of job skills.

Since Abortion and Gay marriage are hot button issues of the extreme right wing and the left wing,we will leave that up to the individual candidate and just base your thoughts on the party positions as outlined.

I know the platform seems somewhat vague, but keep in mind that the Democrat and Republican parties are a heck of a lot more vague than what is written above and neither adhere to what they say they will do.

I am not going to defend this party in the discussion because it is not my party to make rules up for nor would I be anything but a voter just like you.

So based strictly on what lines this party has drawn in the sand, would you or would you not vote for an America First Party candidate for POTUS all the way down to a city councilman?Do they represent your views closer than what we have had to vote for for the last 3 decades?

The purpose of third parties is to bring an issue to the forefront. If the issue gains enough popular support it will be adopted by either the Republican Party, the Democrat Party, or both parties, and the third party then fades into irrelevance.

They are going to have to get a hell of a lot more specific than that. Arguing that the Republicans and the Democrats are vague, while ignoring either party's extensive legislative record ain't going to cut it.

Nope! They're still part of a party and the sociology of group dynamics would, in time, likely render them just as partisan in their own way as any of the others. That's why I am and remain a decline-to-state, totally independent voter.

No; capital punishment and "right to work" are things I will support. Some of the other stuff seems pretty reasonable.

They sound preferable to the Democratic and Republican parties in their current states.

Of course I don't agree with all of it, but there's never a perfect choice.

The Republican Party is headed for a cliff, with Limbaugh at the lead. There has to be an alternative

LOL .... our bipartisanship is destroying this nation, and the democrats aren't democrats and the republicans aren't republicans anymore... This is why we need a coalition government, multiple parties to better represent the US population. How the crap to do fit every single person in the IS into those two parties??? really??
