I've been a victim of the drug war, specifically the war against marijuana. The cop told me that I'm a "big guy who can make decisions for myself". Ironically, I was making a decision to use marijuana safely, and he took my freedom to choose away! I didn't do anything to harm anyone, I just made the mistake of having my pipe visible. What an idiot jerk. I just graduated from college, and have to get a sh*t job while alcoholic jerks (using govt approved recreational drugs) get the jobs I applied for.
Anyway, I know there are hundreds of marijuana legalization threads but just since it's impacted me personally: If freedom is the goal, why do we have legislation that destroys freedom to choose safer recreational drugs (marijuana) over deadly but govt approved recreational drugs (alcohol)? It seems to me that no one has a good excuse anymore, it's just momentum that keeps pot illegal.
Yeah I've never really understood how some politicians claim to be such supporters of personal freedom and liberty yet support the criminalization of marijuana.

I agree, and I used to think those hypocritical pro+anti freedom politicians were mostly republicans, but our allegedly great Mr. Obama is one of them as well.

It's all about the money. It's too hard to tax marijuana because there is already a huge black market in place. If marijuana was legalized then there is a chance less people would consume alcohol and pills. The federal and state governments could not benefit from any legislation legalizing marijuana so it is in their best interest to keep it listed as an illegal drug.
I feel for you. With hussein obama in the white house destroying the country we are all going to need all the marijuana and alcohol we can get our hands on!

Marijuana isn't going to take away from pills and alcohol, because most people who want to smoke pot already are. Medical marijuana is already very popular in pot culture, and most people would prefer it over their local dealer.
You got through college and couldn't figure out that if a police officer sees you breaking a law he might decide to do his job and arrest you?
Now as to marijuana being harmless, half of you people have a hard enough time just driving your cars with your cell phones attached to your ears, God only knows what kind of carnage we would have on our roads if you were to add you smoking a joint while doing it.
